You got 16 replies in General Discussion so far, yet none here on the FG board. How weird.

I took you advice and tried both to see what would happen.

That's what I figured. I'm a little dismayed at the result. But it's all in fun.

I've always liked Forest Gump, Cracking soundtrack as well. Not seen it for ages though.

Never liked this film. It was a silly story told in a silly way. Sometimes an absurdly optimistic everything will work out for the best story works - for example when Frank Capra is at the helm - but this film always annoyed me. It was hyped at the time as the realisation and affirmation of the American dream and I always wonderd how well it worked outside the USA. Looking at box office mojo it made half it's money in the USA which I think is a far bigger proportion than most successful films - and which also I think supports my point that this is a pecularly American film.
Which is not to say that there are not several very good performances in it - Hanks, Field, Sinese are all excellent and I enjoyed watching them despite my irritation with the film overall.

THATS FUNNY.

it is an uniquely American movie.

reply

Yes it is.

reply

Yes it holds up. As popular as it's ever been, and in all likelihood will still be widely watch and acclaimed 50 years from now.

reply

I don't agree with the haters. I like this movie.

reply

I think it still does hold up and I don't give a rats ass about some person from NY opinion. No, maybe I do. Hah-hah.

It holds up for the people who went through some or all of it. It prolly doesn't hold up for the young libs, atheists, and sexual deviants of today.
