Keno is an asshole.

In the beginning of the film he hits on a girl, then when she shuts him down, he insults her.

Then when he's at April's apartment and sees a turtle hiding, he walks into her apartment without permission and steps on the turtle's foot to get him out of hiding.

I agree Keno was a bit hotheaded and I didn't like him nearly as much as Casey Jones, Keno definitely got on my nerves.

reply

I don't understand why they made him so unlikable when we're supposed to cheer for him.

reply

It’s a 90’s thing. Those traits made him hero worship fodder for a lot of kids back then. I was always dumbfounded that so many kids in my age group were obsessed with Rufio from Hook.

reply

Indeed. There's literally a category on TV Tropes for this.

reply

Yeah. Keno starts off as a bit of a twerp but at least he wasn't Danny from the original. He also ultimately becomes a helpful ally to the turtles. His slick martial arts moves also helped to win me over as a kid.

Fun Fact: Probably already well known to most TMNT fans of that era but Ernie Reyes jr. (Keno) was the suited fight performer for Donatello in the original film at only 16 or so years old.

Unrelated: A young Michael Jai White has a small role as one of the recruits in the scene where Keno is trying to infiltrate the Foot Clan. Unfortunately he didn't do any fighting that i'm aware of.

reply

I knew about the costume thing, but not about Michael Jai White.

reply

That's interesting about MJW. Didn't know that.

But why would you hire MJW and not have him fight?

reply

Of those two I actually liked Danny better, while he was a bit of a juvenile delinquent I thought his character was more likable than Keno, I found it easier to sympathize with Danny.

reply

Seriously? Danny the juvenile delinquent, who treats his dad like crap & has no problem stealing from April, despite her treating him with nothing but kindness? The same Danny who voluntarily informs on the turtles (and April) to Shredder which very nearly gets them all killed, along with April's entire family apartment/junk store getting burned to the ground for good measure? But yeah Keno was kind of annoying at the start so I guess that makes him worse...

reply

Danny is just way cooler than Keno. Danny is like having my Uncle Timmy in the film who always used to berate me at this time how his Comic Book Turtles were so much better than my kiddie cartoons as wrong as he may have been.

I myself can relate to stealing from family and anywhere else i could to better finace being able to hang out with my scumbag friends who i valued more than the family i took for granted. Danny was a struggle alot of us went through trying to find ourselves and our standing in our teen years. Keno was just another Turtle without a shell. Danny vs Keno is a big part of why the original is a classic and Part 2 is one of those "Well in heinz sight..." movies
