Hated this movie

Just an over-amped thyroidal version of the original which itself was just a horror movie. it's like watching an original movie and then watching it again with the color saturation turned up all the way until it distorts. it's a disgusting pointless stupid people ... for an audience that is dumb enough to pay for it.

I didn't hate it, yeah there was nothing deep or psychological about it but it was still entertaining. Gotta say this was totally different from the typical Scorsese film, like it had an actual plot.

Notley and Lewis were good.
Not a fan of black and white

100% agree with OP. This movie was absurd. Then it seemed to wink at the audience about how dumb it was being when it spun the camera over in the storm scene. It was like a 60s Adam West Batman episode minus the funny shit.

"It was like a 60s Adam West Batman episode minus the funny shit."

I have never heard a more apt description of how I feel every time I see this movie lol.

It is entertaining at least. Can't accuse it of being dull, even if it is silly.

Love this and Shutter Island. Wish Scorsese would do more horror movies.

reply

Put the film on mute and it's just junk.

I came here after watching this to make sure I'm not the only one who thought this was awful. Easily the worst Scorsese film I've seen. What was especially bad was the theater scene. I was watching that wondering, "Okay, Juliette Lewis is a good actress. Robert De Niro is a good actor. Scorsese is a good director. Why then then is this one of the most amateurishly bad scenes I've ever seen???" Bad movie.

reply

Couldn't agree more. It was an awful movie, but more than that, the original movie was not great either. It was at the beginning of a trend of pointlessly violent exploitation movies, and they got the great Gregory Peck to star in it. The 1990's was the start of a lot of negative trends in movies.

reply

Holy shit, yes. Especially that scene was so much cringe. Badly improvised.

reply

the ending makes up for it.

reply

I thought the ending was WAY too silly.

Love this movie, and I’m someone who usually hates remakes. It’s tense, disturbing, and creepy. DeNiro was awesome.

You can all eat shit. Lol.
