The most random tagline in cinema history...

"The magic is back!"

WHAT??
What the hell does that have to do with Riggs and Murtaugh?
Yes, Gibson and Glover had good chemistry in the first film, that's why it worked, and why there were three sequels.
But, "Magic"?? Really strange marketing idea.

What about part 3: The Magic Is Back Again?! So lazy...

reply

LOL! Ah, it was the '80s & '90s. So many films during that era had some really cheesy taglines to them.

"Lethal Weapon 3" (1992) kinda makes sense since the writers didn't seem to put to much effort into the storyline. That's why I consider it to be the weakest of the franchise.

As for "Lethal Weapon 4" (1998), their tagline is "The Gang's All Here." Well, no kidding. I can clearly see everybody lined up side-by-side in the background. But, at least it was an improvement over the third installment.

We're back, we're bad, you're black, I'm mad!

reply

I'm going to guess all the media scuttle back in the day was about the magic of their chemistry. Decades later, it just seems bizarre.

reply

The magic is black (Roger and the colour of guns).

reply

talk about blowing own horn hahahaha.

lethal weapon series was good but there was better buddy cop movie in 80s.

reply

Like what?

reply

"Running Scared" was pretty good .

reply

Better than Lethal Weapon?

reply

well , at the end of the day , No .
But I just wanted to join in and yell the names of other half decent 80's buddy cop movies.

That one has a slightly different blend of action-comedy. A bit more comedy (or maybe the same amount but funnier) without it being too much of a comedy and not enough action

... or maybe its just nostalgia taliking and it wasnt that good .

reply

I've never seen it, I might give it a watch.

reply

Works for me. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

reply

I agree. That is a stupid tagline. I usually never paid attention to them. Probably the one I remember and liked is the one for True Lies. "When he said I do, he never said what he did." It was on the poster of it my older brother owned. At the time I wasn't allowed to see it in theaters but my brother was.

reply

Why weren't you allowed to see True Lies in theater?

reply

Cause I was only 8 years old when it came out. And at the time I lived in the country 5 miles outside town so I couldn't have snuck in.
