But he was too ill to take the part and died the same year the film was released.

Would've been a great sendoff role.

Ha! Now THAT would've been classic...especially if he still had that same haircut and glasses.

Olivier was a pro and would have done a great job for sure, but the dude they did cast hit that small role out of the park.

Sir Laurence Olivier was looking frail in the late 80's, he'd have made a great villain in Raiders though.

Definitely would've been. Interesting that the actor they cast instead (Robert Eddison) looked a lot like Olivier. Eddison had a 50-year-career mostly on the stage and on British TV.

That would have been awesome had he been able to take the part. Still, the guy they got was perfect.
