Just Rewatched - Nowhere near as bad as i expected

I know this is one of the most hated Bonds and even Roger Moore says it's his least favourite

I have also recently rewatched Moonraker and Octopussy. Firstly Moore doesn't really look any older than in Octopussy, i thought he looked better in this than Octopussy

Overall A view to a kill isn't too bad

Christopher Walken, whilst not his best work was decent

Grace Jones added something different

Tanya Roberts whilst a bit wooden in her acting looked wonderful and wore lovely sexy but classy clothes. The scene when she had on the short satin chemise was just wow damm and i also liked her white outfit at the end with the tight white skirt

The minor girls in this movie were also stunning, Alison Doody and Mary Stavin

reply

Totally agreed. I don't get how this is considered bad, it was friggin awesome!! my favorite moore bond. I guess its all subjective in the end but that's just me!

reply

THANK YOU! BRAVO! BRAVO! I totally agree your assessment of this movie and Roger Moore being THE BEST BOND....... YES, TONYA ROBERTS was ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS IN EVERYTHING SHE WORE! SADLY, now the James bond movies are SO POLITICAL CORRECT, that I'm sure they'll have a GAY 007

A black female gay 007.

reply

You got exactly that in No Time To Die 🤦🏻‍♂️

reply

That's one of only two Bond flicks I haven't seen. I think I'll pass.

reply

Wise decision.

reply

He already suggested he was bi in Skyfall.

If they go for a black/female/gay Bond next then nobody is going to see it. If they’re smart then they’ll do a period Bond with unapologetically old fashioned attitudes, people would lap that up.

I don’t trust Barbara Broccoli to make the right decision. She got everything right with Casino Royale and then botched the rest of Craig’s tenure and allowed that godawful ending.

It’s very possible that she’ll take Bond in a woke direction, which will be the beginning of the end of the franchise.

reply

Then the franchise needs to be taken out of her hands.

AVTAK is the last Bond film I ever watched out of the 24. For some reason it eluded me for so many years, and I wasn't even aware of its existence until I got back into the series. I went in expecting it to be terrible since the reviews are so bad, but it's pretty decent. It has some very weak moments, but overall it's a pretty typical entry into the Bond series. Walken is a brilliant villain who really carries the movie. His mannerisms and facial expressions are hilarious, and he is really believable as a Nazi test tube child psychopath. The scene in the mine where he guns everyone down is one of the craziest moments in Bond history.

AVTAK is middle of the pack at worst. It's not the weakest entry of the series as everyone claims it is.

Its an often forgotten movie, which I can understand because its not very good. I love Roger Moore Bond films but he just looks old and tired in this movie. That face lift he got before filming did not do him any good. Zorin and May Day are the highlights of the film, along with an awesome 80s score and title song by Duran Duran. Its not the worst Bond film, but its in the bottom 5.

reply

I used to dislike this movie but, upon rewatching it recently, found that it wasn't nearly as bad as I remembered. Moore was probably too old to play Bond at this point but he still did a fine job. Christopher Walken rocked as the villain Max Zorin, and the climax on the Golden Gate Bridge was epic.

reply

Agreed. Whether a Bond film is 'good' or 'bad' seems to boil down to whether the villain is good or not, and I rank Zorin among the very best. The Golden Gate finale is also one of my favourite scenes in Bond history.

reply

The storyline still holds up after 30+ years, so that helps. Silicon Valley is as important as ever. Horse racing is still popular amongst the jet set too. Some older Bond films with the Soviet Union or some madman trying to control the world are an outdated plot nowadays.

reply

It's wildly entertaining, but it is still a bad movie. Sometimes those two things can coexist.

reply

I have this on Blu Ray and now I feel the need to watch it based on the reviews citing how it's the most violent BOND of the Roger Moore Era?? 🤔
