Not a single female character?

I believe there wasnt a single female character in this movie? that must be a record?

reply

I'm a female and I usually wanna see female characters in this type of films BUT everything is PERFECT in "The Thing". We didn't need any females here

reply

So?

reply

It was a terrible movie. The only thing it had was special effects that
were pretty advanced for the time, but by the next year everyone was
doing the same thing.

Even an idiot knows that to get people to go see a horror movie you
have to put men and women together, especially women with very
skimpy attire. When they get scared they scream and jiggle. Who
cared about any of these morons in this movie?

the special effects were some of he best ever done. they hold up better today then ever. now movies are cheap and only use cgi which your brain can tell is fake and takes you out of the movie. the practical effects in this movie were some of the best ever done and due to budgets and time probably wont ever be replicated again

I know the technical effort was huge, but I was not that impressed with the movie. I still like the B&W original ... 1951 movie The Thing From Another World. One of my favorites.

reply

i still have to watch that one. I hear it is amazing from lots of people

reply

I just always liked it because it was among the first science fiction movies I ever saw on TV as a kid, and it was so natural and the dialog and characters were as great as the special effects were not. It has the old movie-reel feel to it.

The last one to come out was not too bad ... I'm thinking 2011. I just do not like the new ones because they do not follow the plot because they are so tied up in special effects.

reply

There wasn't a married one either.

reply

They thought it was more fun at the time to make it an all male movie simply they wouldn't have to deal with sexual tension etc.

reply

I'm a woman and I say this is as it should have been. The "prequel" was awful because it relied on a woman lead.

reply

Nah, the prequel was awful, AND it had a woman lead. Drawing a causal effect here is flatly wrong.

reply

You need to watch more World War II films!

reply

not to worry- a remake featuring a full female cast is coming soon ; )
