Ewan McGregor to star in ‘Shining 2'

guess this is going ahead due to the massive success of IT (obviously) and The Shining scenes in Ready Player 1.

Was the “Dr Sleep” book any good?

That’s the REAL question.

An awful book can make for an awful screen adaptation.

Look at “Scarlett”.

A big, steaming pile of bat guano.

🤷‍♂️

reply

idk I never even knew King had written a sequel lol

The plot on Wiki sound “okay”.

Let’s hope the delivery is better.

But it looks like the Overlook Hotel and maze won’t be back.

I hope they bring them back for the movie.

yes, pretty sure they'll want to tie in to the 1980 movie as much as possible (wonder if they will use the sets they built for ReadyPlayer 1 for a flashback or something? maybe that's why they greenlit this so to take advantage of RP1?)

reply

First off, I haven't read the book, but I HAVE read some things about the upcoming movie. So far, the only think I know of that ties in is Lorraine Massey (the bath tub lady). I just know she visits Danny, but I don't know why.

reply

Maybe they'll take the Kubrick approach and not make a straight forward adaptation, and just focus on taking elements from the book, and making it a good movie.

Whose directing it?

reply

Mike Flanagan

Doesn't sound promising...

I started Dr.Sleep a few years ago, didn't finish it for some reason but I liked it. It was quite different. It reminded me of Insomnia actually.

reply

In my opinion Dr. Sleep was not that great. With all of the crap that goes on toward the end, this movie will need a lot of CGI. 👎

reply

It's completely different than the Shining, but it's pretty good, IMO. One of the better books of Kings later career, and I've just about read everything.

reply

Jack Torrance: A Stephen King Story. I hope Kathleen Kennedy doesn't get her hands on it.

reply

Too bad they can't get Danny Lloyd. But then who knows if he really would have the acting chops? I think The Shining was the ONLY thing he ever did. He's just a regular Joe now. But it would be cool, if he could pull it off.

reply

The book Dr. Sleep sucked really bad. It was a shameless cash-grab with laughable antagonists and a moronic plot and it sullied the memory of the original novel.
