Not just the worst Bond movie

but also the worst movie of all time. Roger Moore is too geriatric, I think he might have died on the movie set and been revived or his son stepped in to finish the movie. The villain is a parody of a Bond villain, the whole idea that somebody could build a space station that nobody realized was a threat is ridiculous. But the worst of all, the thing which absolutely ruins the movie is the "Jaws" romance with the pigtailed girlie. If you see this movie, you will lose 10 IQ points. You have been warned.

i agree with OP.
unfortunately i watched it.. and have since lost some IQ points.

WATCH AT YOUR OWN PERIL !

Bond movies were never meant to add IQ points. They’re just good, escapist fun. Moonraker is GREAT escapist fun.

reply

Octopussy is "good, escapist fun."

Moonraker is just stupid.

reply

Octopussy has Bond swinging on a vine doing a Tarzan yell...had Bond telling a tiger to “sit”, etc, etc.

Hey, I like Octopussy. But how do you like a movie with goofy elements like that, yet call Moonraker out?

Opinions vary.

reply

sure but Moore in a clown costume is not even close to the top 10 worst Bond moments as opposed to (for example) the entire gondola sequence ....

; )

reply

People who appreciate Moonraker...love the gondola scene. The vintage 7-Up sign....the amazing scenery of Rio...not to mention seeing the relentless and menacing Jaws, in all his enormity...standing atop a gondola...and then JUMPING over to the one Bond is on! Incredible scene (especially for 1979 special effects). Heck, the visual of Jaws (dressed in carnivale garb) coming slowly at you down a dark alley in the parade scene is one of the most chilling scenes in the franchise.

The ending of Octopussy alone ("Oh, James!") ruined it for me. Compare it to Lois Chiles' cool line "take me around the world one more time"

reply

I think it was the last good Bond movie with Roger Moore. The production level was very high, awesome comic relief..yes, it was over the top but I remember Moonraker being very popular at the Box Office as it was very enjoyable escapist entertainment.

Now, I will tell you what legitimately sucked in 1979--Both Star Trek: TMP AND The Black Hole being released within a week of each other!

It took me 22 years to finally sit down and watch this movie after first hearing about 'Moonraker' in the hit Nintendo 64 game, 007 Goldeneye. I liked it, and I'm glad the Moonraker laser rifle got to be in the movies.

I like how the Internet allows everyone to express themselves. Even when they're completely wrong!

I have a soft spot for the movie because to me it represents the end of an era: Bernard Lee as M. No one comes close. The Sean Connery of M's. It's just not same without him.

OP is absolutely correct
