the 3 major shocking twists in the star wars saga

if watched in order
1 anakin becomes darth vader
2 snoke is actually palpatine
3 rey is palpatine’s granddaughter

reply

What about the fact that droids are not welcomed in a bar on Tatoonie. I didn't get that impression watching episodes 1 thru 3

reply

how is that a shocking twist?

reply

I never got the impression during the prequels that droids were not allowed in bars. Then in A New Hope, I was horrified when I saw the discriminatory practices at that bar in Mos Eisley. And since droids are my favorite characters in Star Wars, this was a shocking and disturbing plot twist

reply

why were you horrified that droids aren't allowed in bars, you do realise this is a sci fi movie made in 1977 ? how does this effect the plot? how is it a shocking plot twist? you do know what twist and plot mean ?

reply

How can you not realize that millsey72 is being facetious?

reply

There are a lot of people on these boards with a slightly below room temperature IQ

reply

this was a shocking and disturbing plot twist

This is more of a plot hole than a plot twist if you ask me.

reply

R2 was discriminated against on the transport to Naboo in Attack of the Clones

reply

4 Only Imperial Storm Troopers are so precise

reply

1 anakin becomes darth vader
2 snoke is actually palpatine
3 rey is palpatine’s granddaughter
4 luke and Leia are siblings
5 Vader is luke's dad

Its all a big family squabble really , kind of arrogant of them to drag the rest of the galaxy into it and cost thousnds of lives.

reply

Number 5 and number 1 are the same thing said a different way, no?

reply

nah
no one becomes a dad in 1)
you could phrase 5 as "Anakin is Lukes dad" , but its still a separate thing

reply

I agree the phrasing is not good, but we know Anakin Skywalker is Luke Skywalker's father. Anakin became Darth Vader. Therefore Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father.

While it doesn't necessarily convey the twist the same way, it is in effect the same thing.

Part of the confusion for me is the qualification in the OP "if watched in order" Which order? Chronological in universe or theatrical release?

reply

ah yeah , I guess if watched "Chronological in universe" , then 5 isnt a plot twist . ( i assume it gets mentioned somewhere - i havent seen ep 3 for decades)

but if watched in release order its quite the shocker!

reply

The biggest twist in any movie I've ever seen. It could be that because I was so young and it had that sort of lasting effect on me, but I can't think of any other reveal of that significance.

reply

I could do without those last 2. I didn't even like the first 2 sequels that much but they should have kept him dead. I refused to see the last movie when I found that out. In my opinion, there's no way he could have survived his fall in Return of the Jedi.

reply

Vader being Lukes father has to be number 1

reply

second death star

reply

Now the dumbest twists that came from the prequals.
1. It turning out Jedis aren't allowed to fall in love and get married.
2. Jar Jar Binks being a character that Obi Wan and Anakin knew.
3. The first Storm Troopers being clones.
4. Chewbacca having met and fought with Yoda.
5. Anakin building C3-PO.
6. C3-PO not knowing Anakin built him in the Original Trilogy because he and R2-D2 had their memory erased.
7. Luke's and Leia's mom dying from grief.

reply

Anakin kills those kids training to be Jedi (I know he has already turned to the darkside but that was awful)
Leia is Luke’s twin sister (well good thing they we're not identical twins)
Rey is not related to any of the good guys
