Hooper or Quint? Who is best?

Your are Brody...But you can only pick one of these fine hunters, who do you choose? Only one though, because you would need a bigger boat for three. (Quint's boat can be used for either hunter, but Quint won't work with Hooper)

Hooper (Dreyfuss)- Brains, cutting edge technology, a methodical and relentless personality.

Or

Quint (Shaw)- Brawn, instinct and experience, a fierce motivation and hatred of sharks.

Who is best at killing this monster?

"He gave the Mexicans a receiver"~ Chigurh

"He feels...he felt, the more people looking-"~ Accountant

"That's foolish, you pick the one right tool"~Chigurh

No Country for Old Men (2007)

Who is that person?

Brody killed the shark, but oh well...

Quint is one of the most awesome film characters ever.

I think if they just had one shot to do it with the boat/gear they initially had, I’d pick Quint. He was willing to do whatever it takes, even sacrificing his life and boat to kill Jaws. Quint has more experience and is tougher, he basically is fearless and will stop at nothing to kill Jaws. Quint is probably my overall favorite character from any movie. The character was great, written extremely well, but Shaw brought Quint to a legendary level. Such a memorable and unique character.

But if it was just to eventually kill Jaws, as in allowing multiple attempts, returning to land for different boats and supplies, etc., then I’d pick Hooper. He knows when he is outmatched and is willing to swallow his pride and admit defeat to live another day and come back with better equipment.

Pretty sure Hooper had the bigger boat. And according to Brody that's what they needed.

Your vote please, choose one.

Kind of nonsensical because we all know what happened when we picked Quint... he failed.
So I chose Hooper, let's see what he can do despite not having a boat suitable for shark hunting at all which makes it all pointless right away...

Why am I replying to this?

reply

It's a hypothetical!

The end is not set in stone.

Quints boat can be used with Hooper, but Quint won't go with Hooper.

Think alternative ending, like a good video game.

Your vote please.

There is no wrong answer.

Any intelligent person would take Hooper! Because if Hooper's first attempt at killing the shark didn't work, you'd both still be alive and planning the next attempt, while Quint would be chopping through the shell of the boat with an axe to get at the shark. Hooper would do what a scientist does, try your hypothesis and see if it works, and if it doesn't, change your assumptions and plan a new strategy. Quint was a loon, even before they headed out to sea you could see he was a few beers short of a sixpack, and yeah - out at sea he lost his mind and did his best to get them all killed.

Of course I'm prejudiced because I adore Hooper and dislike Quint on many grounds - not only is he a dangerous loon, he's played by a ham I never liked. But I tend to like guys like Hooper, I've had a lot of friends of his sort over the years. So yeah, I not only think Hooper is more likely to kill the shark and get back alive, he'd be MUCH better company out at sea.

You ever seen a shark's eyes, Chiefy? Like a doll's eyes - all black and lifeless.
