If it's set in the modern era, Viola Davis as Sheriff Brody, and if it's set several decades ago, John Boyega.
Maybe... Micheal B. Jordan as Hooper, if he's willing to downplay his looks.

I think it might be interesting to set it in the Gullah Islands of Georgia and the Carolinas, in the middle of the 20th century. An isolated island with an all-black population, which is poor and which desperately wants income from mainland visitors, and where there's absolutely no question of asking the Jim Crow mainland for help. It's all on the Sheriff and local people to solve this problem, and without modern technology.
