The BBC has removed this episode from the series due to the recent increased racism awareness.

"WILL YOU STOP TALKING ABOUT THE WAR?"
"Me? You started it!"
"We did not start it!"
"Yes you did, you invaded Poland!"

CLASSIC.

Doesn't affect me, I bought the Blu-ray complete set recently, and am I glad I did! I recommend you do the same thing before the BBC do something stupid like have it taken off of store shelves.

reply

I guess they never saw The Atilla the Hun show

reply

"recent increased racism awareness"!

Good call. I'd never heard of this thing they call racism until last week.

reply

The death of comedy is by far the most depressing thing to happen in the 2010s+. This era is the absolute worst.

reply

I don't know if comedy is dead, it has just changed. You can still make jokes:

What did one person say to the other person?

Stuff.

reply

White people. Right?

John Cleese on PC culture:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCj6YNIpqmA

In days of yore, the court jester was the only one who could mock the king. The function (as I had it told to me) was that this enabled a softer blow to come and gave the ruler a chance to see his missteps. The satire could prevent him from making a bad political move when the jester's mocking bit in. While at the same time sparing him the embarrassment of having another courtier directly criticising him, causing him to lose face.

Now the jesters aren't allowed to mock anymore for the same reason: people are worried the jester has a great point.

Lighten up, everybody.

Also: The Germans was the funniest episode of Fawlty Towers. This is cutting off their (the BBC's) nose to spite their face.

reply

I'm sure many rulers executed court jesters who overstepped their bounds. I know of at least one fictional example.

reply

Probably right. Nevertheless, my point remains the same: PC/cancel culture is humourless and spiteful, and anybody who can't see the point of farce or satire is somebody who is foolish and is likely to remain so.

reply

I won't subscribe to HBOmax because of this GWTW nonsense. And if Netflix keeps this up I'll drop them.Having a political party or streaming service decide what your allowed to see isn't freedom. And if someone finds a dumb comedy like Fawlty towers offensive then your a straight up pc virtue signaling infant.Grow up.

reply

Madness. Basil is a fool and the object of mockery. Basil saying those things means the people making the show were doing the opposite of promoting those kinds of ideas.

Context means nothing to these people.

reply

At least it's only temporary so far.

But certainly ridiculous.
