This movie was very racist

Should be banned

reply

Banned? Aren't you the little Nazi?

reply

It is racist but it should not be banned.

reply

I don't like how they showed the little girl slave being so useless, particularly around births. Usually by that age, kids like her had been trained to be good hard workers and to adapt to whatever job assigned to them, regardless of experience. I hated watching Scarlet expecting so much of her and slapping her when she wasn't cooperating. It's a caricature I've always disliked about black people in general (and this coming from a white person, btw).

reply

But I see her as a stupid twit, who just happened to be a black woman.
Just look at Mamy for a much more positive portrait of a black woman in the same movie.

reply

I also didn't like how Scarlet treated her in that situation. It's like she had no time or patience for what was essentially a kid who was scared and had never been taught how to deal with births, and suddenly had this job thrust upon her. I would have handled the situation very differently, but then again, I'm not Scarlet.

reply

Yeah, I see what you mean. But it was a sign of what era it was.

Prissy was even still a slave at that point, so I fear that Scarlett could have treated her even worse.
Also, Scarlett would have been furious because Prissy had lied about her midwifery skills.

reply

It is not racist and it should not be banned. Any such opinion is idiotic. If you don't like it, don't watch it, but you have no right to order other people not to watch it. It actually depicts black people as they were in the late 1850s and early 1860s. So what if Butterfly McQueen's character is stupid. Don't you think there were any stupid black women at that time, just as there were stupid white people, and stupid people of all races? Grow up and try using your brain.

reply

Not only should be banned but every film negative should be destroy so future generations won't have a copy in whatever format succeeds the bluray.

reply

If it is racist because it shows how things were during a time of slavery then by that same logic any history book that dares to mention slavery is also racist.

Maybe it is best said that you are simply an ignorant cunt, piss off.

reply

It is not racist one bit. It is likely quite realistic and simply demonstrates the racism that was unfortunately prevalent in the era that the story takes place in.

reply

This will only promote the movie more. People will be buying it like crazy now. Not exactly what the BLM people wanted.
