Dave Chappelle is wrong to say Hannah Gadsby is "not funny"

"In the middle of this battle of wanting attention versus requesting human decency, I must offer a bit of clarifying information that I’m sure will be of great importance to those following this situation: I was at the Netflix taping of Gadsby’s Douglas, and I not only saw people laughing, but I also laughed myself," says Emily Alford. "As far as I know, no audience members paid to do so; in fact, I actually exchanged American currency for the opportunity. As for the rest of the audience, I cannot say whether they were laughing because they found Gadsby humorous, but I can say with absolutely certainty that I, many times, was compelled to mirth for no reason beyond the hilarious ways in which Gadsby framed her observations."

True. He should have said 'painfully' unfunny.

True

I gave it a shot on youtube knowing nothing about him/her/it/she/he/they/them/whatever the fuck is the proper word THIS minute.....
it was boring. professionally delivered, non funny stuff. Audience sounded canned, laughing at nothing...

"Whats the deal with leaving the toilet seat up??? Am I right??" Hahahahahahah

where was the joke? The funny twist of words that made it funny? I guess him/her/it/she/he/they/them/whatever the fuck is the proper word THIS minute's humor is not for me.

A rubbish article which doesn't understand that the third condition Chappelle puts on the meeting is a joke. He laughs while saying it. It's done to get a rise and be cheeky. But, of course, the fact the this Jezebel writer doesn't seem to get that its a joke at all is exactly what's wrong with the anti-Dave group, and probably has a lot to do with why he keeps telling these jokes.

reply

Jezebel writer? I would have thought Sappho.

reply

The link leads to Jezebel. I didn't check to see if it was a re-print, and I don't feel like giving the article another click to find out.

reply

Oh i didn't see that! I thought you were calling Hannah Gadsby a "jezebel"!

reply

Hah, no; for my part in this confusion, I thought the "Sappho" you referred to was another OP-ed/blog website I didn't know about!

LOL

No self-awareness, no sense of irony, and yet manages to sound exactly a comedy version of itself. It's an ouroboros of parody.

🤣🤣🤣

Hating yourself for being born female doesn't make you funny. I can't think of any other reason she'd purposefully make herself so ugly.

reply

Is "she" actually she, or a dude pretending? Hard to tell anymore.

Watched a bit of her stuff. I agree with Dave; she's not funny. Her delivery is angry, and she rails about how angry male comics are lauded while she is chided for being an angry lesbian. She would be lauded if she was funny. She is angry and preachy, and makes some real logical leaps from time-to-time. I think she gets attention and a show on Netflix because she is a part of the alphabet crowd and autistic to top it off. Perhaps she would be better if she strayed from her main topic.

reply

She's so angry to the point she looks male herself. Must've built up all that testosterone hate.

Thing with Gadsby is that she only appeals to the 'wokely' educated elitists or heavily indoctrinated 'wokesters'. No one else finds her funny or barely hence the lack of any numbered reviews except for these elitism-class types or the dysphoric. The "I went to university so I am better than you" and/or "I take SJW/activist curriculum." Chappelle on the other hand appeals to the masses and normal hard working folk, the down to Earth and downtrodden.
