When did she become so based?

Wow, very impressive how based she has become and her rejection of the woke nonsense. Claps.

reply

Based on what?

reply

I think you mean biased.

reply

Do you not know what based means?

reply

Coked-up on freebase?

reply

Nope.

reply

Oh, I know, I know! Knocked down by a runner sliding into home base! (To the tune of of "revved up like a deuce another runner in the night")

reply

You're arguing with cult members. It's like arguing with 7th graders on mescaline.

reply

Yep. Exactly what arguing with leftists is like.

reply

And, uh, for research purposes, where did these 7th graders get their hands on this mescaline?

reply

They won't tell anyone!

reply

tell us what you think based means.

I know what based means according to the dictionary.

reply

It's a synonym for sane.

reply

The reason why I asked is because I wasn't sure if you were disagreeing with the OP's claim that Megyn is based or if you were legitimately not understanding what the OP was trying to say.

Based, in this context, means to speak from a base or foundation that doesn't bend to the whims or influence of outside pressure. It means someone is grounded (based) in their beliefs - being yourself and having your own opinions, not caring what others think. It's been in use this way for more than a decade.

The OP certainly meant based and not biased.

reply

The length of the history of the misuse of the word is relevant for what reason?

reply

To demonstrate that this is not new. Anyone who is an active internet user, especially on forums like this one, should have a grasp of the colloquial usage.

reply

The problem appears to be there are MANY colloquial usages, and you expect everyone to know which ONE you mean.

reply

thanks

reply

You're welcome. I'm not trying to be intentionally difficult. I just want to be sure I understand your perspective.

reply

She's not really based, she's just against the far left insanity.

reply

what does based mean in this context? google doesn't know

reply

dictionary dot com does

edit:
I just did a quick google search. Google provides a direct definition, which is the traditional usage. Then below that in the search results, literally 4 of the top 5 results have the definition you're looking for.

Let me note the followings:

1st link, urban dictionary provides this text:
"Short for "debased," referring to a concept, object, practice or ideology that has been stripped of its intrinsic significance by association with and ..."

(I like this one!)

2nd link:
"Lead the way to a zero-carbon economy, boost innovation and drive sustainable growth by setting ambitious, science-based emissions reduction targets."

Science-based? Can't go wrong with that! (Except with the erosion of the meaning of the word "science", but that's another issue completely.)

3rd link:
"Based is a slang term that originally meant to be addicted to crack cocaine (or acting like you were), but was reclaimed by rapper Lil B for ..."

Oh, oh, it's a RECLAIMED word! Let there be no more discussion!

I'd say telling someone to look at google and expect them what to make of this nonsense word is really asking a lot of someone.

Yes, and it's been in common use this way for at least 10 years.

I'd say telling someone to look at google and expect them what to make of this nonsense word is really asking a lot of someone.

I never did any such thing. In fact, you can look in this thread and see I provided the current common usage of the word directly.

reply

Given the length of time the word has been misused this way has impressed you so, I should point out that my first guess, "coked up on freebase" is an OLDER meaning, and therefore should have more weight.

reply

Yet you still worship Woke pop stars? WTF?

lulz

reply

You can perfectly like a pop star's work and not their politics.

reply

But her work is her politics and it's weaved into her songs preaching Wokeness to no end.
