Thoughts?

I'll refrain my opinion until later....

It's weird and bad

reply

It's a slog. And worst of all, he replaced the Sax & Guitar solo section with that rambling spoken-word nonsense.

This does not bode well for the rest of the album. What is he going to do to "The Great Gig In The Sky"? That was solely written by the late Richard Wright (& years later, rightfully co-credited [including retroactive back royalties!!] to guest vocalist Clare Tory for her powerful improvised wordless vocal)

reply

Yes, the new Money is bad but I did see one review where they said this might be an outlier song. Something along the lines that this was added to the original album at the last minute for radio play.

I don't know if this is true but I hope at least 2 or 3 of the new DSOTM songs are good..but right now it ain't lookin' good!

reply

He just released the new version of "Time" to his YT channel. It's actually a little better, but not by much. Still doesn't bode well.

I wonder if he's going to release the whole album, or just keep releasing 1 song at a time.

reply

Yes, I listened to it already..it just seems to me he's copying Taylor Swift, who re-recorded her songs to make more profit since her record label ripped her off.

He's supposed to release the whole album in Oct but who in the heck is going to buy this crap?

reply

I'm really curious as to how he's going to treat "The Great Gig In the Sky". As just about everybody knows by now, that was written entirely by Rick Wright, & years later rightfully co-credited to Clare Tory.

reply

It really doesn't look like he's putting much effort into this, so I've basically given up the hope that any of the songs will be good.

The last I really liked by Waters was the entire Radio K.A.O.S. album(1987). But I like Roger better than Gilmour, David is a great guitarist but he's never said one thing that interests me, except for maybe an anecdote or two about Syd Barrett.

Roger Waters is many things and he has a I don't give a fuck attitude. But he's never been boring.

reply

Both Dave & Roger seem to be lesser artists as solo acts than they were together.

I listened to KAOS a lot when it came out but haven't listened to it in years, & haven't really listened to Amused...., nor Is This the Life... at all. Gilmour, I wasn't very impressed with On An Island, & haven't checked out the one after it.

reply

Bump!

Anyone else want to weigh in on this?

I give it a very generous 3/10.

reply

sorry, not clicking. I don't support this insufferable, antisemitic piece of waste. Ugh, can hardly bear his stupid face on the trending bar.

reply

Well after a month the video is at 455k views, with almost 10k likes. Hard to tell since YT doesn't show the dislike count anymore, but judging from the comments so far, it's not getting a good reception.

Don't know if David Gilmour has said anything about it publicly, but Nick Mason recently said he found it "annoyingly good".

reply

Nick won't say anything to offend Roger. His Pink Floyd book really suffered because of that.

reply

Nick has acted as a kind of buffer between Roger & Dave since the 80's.

A few years back, when there was a public battle between the 2 over the credits on the re-issue of Animals, Nick publiclly lamented how sad it was that even now at their age they can't seem to ever get along with each other.

reply

Yes that is something I took out of his book. He seems like a genuinely nice and grounded guy. I'm sure if he wasn't in the band, they might have split up much sooner.

Y&T never wrote with either Roger Waters or Pink Floyd!

reply

😕😕😕???

Uh.....YT means YouTube

I didn't put
an '&' between the 2......😛😛

reply

It's my goofy sense of humor, brah; hoping to inspire laughs.

reply

This from the comment section sums it up for me

Undeniable mathematical proof that Roger Waters was exactly 25% of Pink Floyd.

reply

I'd say he was a little bit higher than 25%, more like 75%.. I'll give Gilmour and the rest of the band credit where credit is due in keeping the Pink Floyd name alive and well during the touring years, despite feuding with Waters over the name, but in the end, Waters voice his synonymous with these songs..

reply

👍👍👍

Exactly.😎

He probably didn't even play Bass on half the songs on DSOTM either. Gilmour did.

reply

I made it 23 seconds in and basically feel it sucks and makes you appreciate Gilmour, Wright and Mason when they sing it in concert.. I'll never fully understand what exactly was the beef between Waters & Gilmour, but what a waste of an awesome Pink Floyd Reunion Tour that would've been?? I saw Waters in concert 2 years ago at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis MO. He put on quite a show I must say.. Musically, it was an A+ and sounded just like Pink Floyd in Concert with Waters and how it should've looked like, however, I knew going in there would be some Trump bashing bullshit to his stage show when he built the Wall and had kids come out with the Anti-Trump crap and it was at that point, that I took an intermission break til that song was over, but it was only this song he did this.. During the intermission, I purchased a T-Shirt at a ridiculous price of $45.00 I suppose the $$$$ went toward the Roger Waters Retirement Fund, but still a great show overall..

reply

Roger had a big ego trip, tried to take over the band without acknowledging the other members contribution.

This pissed Gilmour off to no end and the two have barely spoken to each other since the early 80's.

There was a brief period after the Live 8 reunion where they actually seemed to be getting along better & weren't slagging each other in the press.

Of course, it didn't last long.

reply

I think Roger forcing them to all hold hands and bow at the end of Live 8 was the final nail in the coffin. Dave was surely thinking "he actually thinks he's the leader!" ..

..which harks back to the early 80's when Dave was asked what he thinks of Roger Waters and he sharply gave a Nazi salute.

reply

I'm a big fan of Roger Waters but I really don't care for this version.

reply

Oh brother, it sounds like its creator - old and tired.
