Hoax hate crimes are only given power by the spike in ACTUAL hate crimes

This is also statistically guaranteed: A rise in crimes of a certain type will necessarily come with its accompanying rise in hoaxes and false reporting of that type of crime, aka those who take advantage of the increased public awareness.

It wouldn't make sense for there to be any kind of trend of people faking something that never happens. Right? That sentence itself describes an absurd situation (unless we're talking about faking a popular myth like alien abductions, but I don't think there is a trend of people faking alien abductions anyway).

People who think hoaxes vindicate them and validate their worldview are simply trying to deny the reason why these hoaxes are empowered, the well-known and long-publicized rise in ACTUAL hate under Trump's leadership, hate which he pours fuel on constantly.

I can't even link to the articles because there are so many, so here's the search:

The Right-wingers want to distract you from this reality by falsely playing victim.

Don't fall for the charade.

reply

This is why the reaction to my Ashley Todd topic is so perfect and why I waited to post this follow-up.

This response encapsulated it:

Yes I remember her. and here is the thing...
"Rightwingers" condemned her for it. Thought her asinine and stupid.

Secondly... other than her, can you come up with another case of "rightwingers" faking a crime against them?

See, Ashley's story was shot down quickly and didn't have nearly the fuel of the Smollett story, because Smollett was taking advantage of a rise in hate crimes.

The more you know.

reply

This is also why trolls prefer to pretend to be far-right-wingers. They're trying to surf Poe's Law and get that perfect wave of indistinguishability between parody of hatred and factual hatred.

reply

Your talking to yourself again.

Is there a rise in "hate" crimes, or is the revised lefty definition of "hate" changing the numbers? Asking a man to leave the woman's bathroom where your 5 year old daughter is inside is a "hate" crime these days.

When we live in a country where liberals consider the American flag a hate symbol, calling something a "hate" crime has no meaning.

BTW, please don't comment about yesterdays attack on a person who dared protest the Jussie incident by saying ""Hate Crime Hoaxes Hurt Real Victims."

Here's the REAL attack:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdOBlT9Q4S0

Does this qualify as a "hate" crime in looney leftie land? Will it get as much press as Jussie's "attack"?

reply

"Is there a rise in "hate" crimes, or is the revised lefty definition of "hate" changing the numbers?"

I would defer to the professionals who study these things. There are plenty of links in that search if you wish to look into it, but it's been documented ever since Trump took office so there has been PLENTY of time for fact-checking and such.

"Asking a man to leave the woman's bathroom where your 5 year old daughter is inside is a "hate" crime these days."

Unrelated, random, isolated, out-of-context example (or hypothetical since it may be invented) with no applicability to this topic.

"When we live in a country where liberals consider the American flag a hate symbol"

Really? "Liberals" hold this opinion?

Hey go ahead and throw out ridiculous, meaningless generalizations. I'M SURE THAT WILL HELP YOUR ARGUMENT AND MAKE YOU SOUND LIKE A GREAT SOURCE OF DATA.

LOL

reply

I would defer to the professionals who study these things.

You mean colleges, universities, government pork barrel projects, and other think tanks of modern enlightenment?

I'll pass.

With regards to the growing numbers of those who think the American flag is a hate symbol, I'll speculate with complete confidence that while not a majority of liberals think that way, *nearly* all of those who do think that are not conservatives.

reply

The criminal code is a good reference, but you literally declared that you're ready to reject anyone or anything that tracks hate crimes, so Im not even going to bother with you any further.

You staked a claim on willful ignorance, and I'm happy to let you have that.

reply

Hate crime is inherently subjective because it concerns motive rather than action. It's totally political, hence asking someone to leave a bathroom being considered a hate crime or not depending on what year it is. Pretending you could defer to experts, that's willful ignorance.

Wearing a MAGA hat is viewed as hateful. If you "punch a Nazi", you were fighting "hate". Let me ask you a simple question. Is someone wearing a MAGA hat more likely to attack or to be attacked? You say Jussie Smullette was capitalizing on a trend. But I think he was going in reverse. That's why I knew it was a hoax and you didn't.

reply

All trends have their kickback, just like all actions have an opposite reaction.

Just compare it to political correctness: A rise in that trend will lead a rise in "anti-PC" sentiment among those who dislike it. Very logical, as this is a basic description of reactionary behavior.

Of course we can step backward and point out that the PC trend was itself a kickback against a preexisting trend, and that trend was probably a kickback against a preexisting trend.

It's like in a war (and/or terrorism): If each side uses an attack as justification for a bigger attack, then the retaliations become their own source of cross-escalation.

An example:

reply

I saw that today. Unbelievable. But it also ought to prove a point to the liberals -- that foul-mouthed moron who was so triggered no doubt thought he was fighting against a hate speech at UC Berkeley. The peaceful fellow getting beaten fought back by taking the Neanderthal liberal's picture and posting it on Twitter, asking people to DM him if they knew who his attacker was...so he could charge him with a hate crime.

One of my all-time favorites is how Ben Shapiro is constantly being called a Nazi by college students. A Jewish Nazi? Do these people have no understanding of history? Then today I saw that there was a bill that was going to be put before the Oregon State Legislature to mandate the Holocaust be studied in high schools! Mind-boggling, but yes, it is quite likely that the kids in school screaming "hate speech," "Nazi," and "hate crime" know next to nothing about history, real Nazis, actual hate speech, or actual hate crimes. No wonder AOC is so stunningly ignorant! I don't know what they are teaching, but it isn't logic or history.

reply

You're absolutely right. These people are clueless. The progressive takeover of public, and private, education is now showing its results. Thankfully, I was able to home school my kids.

reply

A slight uptick in the murder rate over a two year timeframe would lead to a surge in murder hoaxes???

Look, America is a country where the KKK used to lynch people. Hate crimes are not "on the rise". America is more tolerant than ever.

The reason for hoaxes is that in social justice culture, victimhood is social currency. In grievance studies it's called the "Oppression Olympics". It's a moral quest to see who is the most righteous. We have an increase in hoaxes because we have an increase in social justice. This is a long term trend. If hoaxes are increasing under Trump, it's not because hate crimes are increasing. It's because the media is fomenting and enabling blood libel. That's why we (you) believed not just a hoax but a totally ridiculous hoax. How else would you explain that?

reply

"A slight uptick in the murder rate"
"a surge in murder hoaxes"

I'm not sure why you stuck with murder here... But it's interesting how you stuck "slight uptick" and "surge" where you did

>>The reason for hoaxes is that in social justice culture, victimhood is social currency. In grievance studies it's called the "Oppression Olympics".<<

Yes absolutely, and ironically enough, this is currently what so many Right-wingers on this site have decided to do right now, using the Smollett situation. It's part of why I find this all so interesting, like how they are harping on about Jussie's lie but they will deny/ignore the constant lies of the President SIMULTANEOUSLY.

Very basic partisan bias.

"That's why we (you) believed not just a hoax but a totally ridiculous hoax"

I never believed it and I never disbelieved it. Hell, I argued for both sides! I was just waiting to watch it unfold.

reply

Oh and not only did I not believe it, I made fun of Jussie here on this board (and the topic title there was a reference to O.J. Simpson's book!):
https://moviechat.org/nm0810620/Jussie-Smollett/5c69cab459fede7756bbcd5a/Why-he-did-it

reply

The most hate crimes since 9/11. Making America Hate Again sounds more on the nose than ever.

reply

Ah but Jussie's was a hoax so now they're all hoaxes or left wing media exaggeration!!!

snepts basically took that stance today.

reply

Only losers like you crave victimhood.

reply

Actually, this is just an instance of prevalent black racism coming to the surface, which was so extreme that even the media had to report it for a change. And that was only because of the white attacker/Trump/MAGA angle that got it started.
