Does anyone else hate this guy?

From the moment I first saw him, I didn't like him. I first saw him playing his own version of "The Architect" for some MTV Move Awards opening show (with a "Matrix: Reloaded" theme) in the very early 2000s, I didn't like him. He didn't like Neo constantly saying to him "You didn't answer my question," and he finally screamed at the guy to shut up and attacked him.

Every film I've seen him advertised in looked like dog crap, low-brow comedy, and I honestly never found him funny. I couldn't even get satisfaction out of seeing him "wrestling a cougar" in "Taledega Nights" because the cougar looked fake. A few of his films looked gross. Others just rubbed me the wrong way, simply because he was in them. How the hell does this guy keep getting movies made with him as the star?

The only time I could tolerate him on screen was when he played his own version of "Alex Trebek" in "Celebrity Jeopardy," and the guy playing Sean Connery was always snarking at him, getting the category titles wrong, and wanted to insult his mother many times. Now that was worth seeing.

Anyone else feel this way?

I don't hate anybody but I find this guy to be a doofus!

I never found him to be funny in the least.

Maybe I'm just old and don't "get" his type of humor.

reply

He's "Sometimes funny in a 5 minute SNL sketch, but his routine gets old real fast in anything longer than that" funny.

reply

He is not funny at all, he is simply an asshole with the body of man and the brain of 5 years old.

reply

Due to recent events, he's just one more reason I refuse to watch the Barbie movie. No sane person would ever hire a guy like that to head a corporation that sells dolls to little girls.

reply

He grew on me over the years like a barnacle. I still find his SNL work largely unwatchable. But with a good script, a few takes and a good edit, he's pretty funny.

reply

HATE IS THE PREFERRED TOOL OF THE STUPID.

reply

I always find him hilarious when he has a good script or good characters to interact with.

reply

When did he have one of those?

reply

Old School (2003)

It's an ensemble movie and I'd say Ferrell's screen time was in perfect proportion to the rest of the cast.

reply

I saw the anvil drop and the rest of the cringe in the trailers and said "No thanks!"

reply

AmeriGirl26, he had it on Elf, Old School, SNL, etc.

reply

SNL has been crap since before you were a sperm.

reply

YOU are a sperm and that's being crap.

reply

He’s as funny as a razor blade hiding in a vagina.

reply

Why, that's not funny at all!!!

reply

I'd rather drink acid after chewing on a razor blade than watch one of his films.

reply

Most of us here would love for you to drink acid and chew on a razor blade.

Hate? If by hate you mean hate that he ruins everything he's in, then yes.

reply

Yep. He has the Anti-Midas touch; he turns everything he touches to shit. I'm glad he's retired and not in film as much anymore.

reply

I completely hate this guy. He's just another member of the rich Ivy League comedy club that got into the mainstream based off of his money and connections. Will Ferrell is less funny than Ben Stiller, another member of the Ivy League comedy club, and that's saying a lot.

His movies are banned from my household. That includes the movie Elf which for some reason many of my friends seem to like.

reply

I get really tired of seeing that damned film advertised at Christmastime. It's about as lousy as "A Christmas Story," and I'm not interested in seeing it or products endorsing it.

I still maintain the only reason Will Ferrell got any roles was the same reason Seth Rogen was able to make as many movies as he did; he had powerful friends that let him get away with his BS, despite not being that good of an actor or that likeable as a person.
