What do you think went wrong in OJ Simpson's life that made him turn bad?

OJ Simpson was (and potentially still is) a violent man who played a violent sport and became a hero while doing that. He was able to use his success in that sport to create a minor film and television career, as well as to become a pitchman for several different corporations, most notably a rental car giant.

In the early 1990s, Simpson’s life seems to have begun to fall apart. He had divorced his first wife Marguerite to marry a younger woman, Nicole Brown. Although the marriage initially seemed to be going well, jealously, mutual drug use, and Simpson’s insecurity spelled an end to it by late 1992. Brown moved out their shared home and apparently did not want a reconciliation after at least one instance of domestic violence.

Simpson’s professional career was also floundering. He was fired by NBC Sports from his job as an on-air football commentator. His acting roles were drying up and he was angered that a minor role in a series of comedy films was all that was being offered to him. And his advertising relationship with the rental car giant was cooling down after almost two decades. Since this was prior to the pitchman roles for shady companies that Shaquille O’Neal, Joe Namath and George Foreman now excel at. Simpson’s cash streams were drying up at a time when his expenses were increasing.

There’s also the fact that Simpson and his coterie of friends were known for their ability to “party”. Their levels of drug use were apparently high, and Simpson was known to partake quite heavily. One of the allegations that was made (which seems to have some truth to it as it engendered multiple objections during his trial) is that Simpson and his “couch surfer” Kaeto Kaelin, had gone to a nearby Burger King restaurant to buy food and an illegal substance the night of the Brown/Goldman murders. Simpson was apparently not tested for drugs after the murder; if he was, then the results have never been released to the public.

When O.J. was young he was a promising athlete but he was constantly getting in trouble. Famous football running back Jim Brown visited O.J. in order to straighten him out. He told O.J. that if he stayed out of trouble and became a famous running back he would be able to date white women.

Sooo, O.J. played a nice guy and got what he wanted..when HE DIDN"T GET WHAT HE WANTED he reverted back to his true self.

Just a guess, he married a woman who wouldn't put up with his shit. This pushed him over the edge.

Is he a psychopath? Who knows...

I just thought he was a POS. Most POS's don't give a rat's pitooie about anyone else. Someone does something to them that is disrespectful? Kill them. They deserve it.

But lately I'm not sure. With all the mounting evidence of CTE that's afflicting NFL players, I'm wondering if his rage wasn't part of the damage. It will be interesting to see if an autopsy after his death shows significant CTE damage.

Enough with all that psychobabble...OR I'M GONNA KILL YOU!

Well all right. Since you asked nicely.

He should have stuck to being a bachelor.

Being black.

He was born alive.

Sounds like ego initially, then power, money and drug use later on. Pretty bad combination.

I wasn't around at the time but could steroids played a part? any photos I've seen he looks tiny though. add steroid rage onto already underlying instability and it makes it worse

He had good and bad in him his whole life, just like everyone else. What turned him into an incessant liar was the fact that he killed two people and didn't want to spend the rest of his life in jail. He's been lying about it ever since. And even the murders, not minimizing what he did, but he isn't a murderer in the sense that he gets some joy out of killing people. He let a woman drive him crazy, it's that simple.
