I would think all of his movies are lesser known movies.
Like Keir Dullea in 2001, Bruce in Silent Running is a career making moment.
And it's not a very big movie.

He's really good in Michael Ritchie's "Smile" from '75, a satire on beauty pageants. It's still up on Prime Video (August 2019) and is well worth watching.

Diggstown (1992) - Bruce Dern, Lou Gossett Jr., James Woods.
- Lou Gossett is a boxer who is working with James Woods (a huckster) to win ten fights in 24 hours in a corrupt town run by Bruce Dern.
