Anyone else still hoping that he makes his viking tale Berserker?

I would love to see this film made in the style of Apocalypto, culturally immersive, subtitles and everything.

reply

yes it would make me very happy.

reply

Yeah he could call it ' Mad Battle Max '

reply

I'm totally for that too.

reply

Never heard anything about it, but it sounds amazing.

The only problem for Mel is that he will find portraying British people as the villains particularly difficult in any Viking film.

reply

Braveheart was released nearly three decades ago, that chip you’re carrying on your shoulder must be a boulder by now.

reply

Not that difficult, tbh.

reply

Not too interested in some Viking movie. If I’m in the mood for something like that, Braveheart is perfection.

Mel needs a huge, old-school, retro blockbuster commercial hit....like in the golden age of commercial blockbusters: The 80’s.

In short, Mel needs to see Lethal Weapon 5 through....for Richard Donner. Do it while the cast is still alive...while Joe Pesci is still mobile. Do it to resurrect the non-woke, buddy cop genre one last time. And....do it to remind all the woke zombie puritans out there how a movie star with screen presence, charm, wit and acting chops gets it done.

All that’s left of them are essentially you...and Tom C.

Do LW5, Mel....bring back an ensemble of beloved characters....and knock it out of the park....for Richard D, (and for your fans that never left).

(Drops the mic)

reply

Yeahhhhhhhhh, no.

Mel is a dinosaur. Let him remain extinct.

reply

No reason he can't do both. And yes, I would hope that he'd focus on LW5 first, because there is not a huge window of time left for that film to be made, and made right.

I would absolutely love to see Gibson at some point make a badass Viking epic in the vein of Braveheart, though.

reply

seen it too many times. its three hours and the intro is way too long.

reply

Every other franchise resurrection I've seen thus far was a major disaster - so prolly not a good idea.

reply

When Sly did Rocky Balboa, that was a good example of a return to a franchise that went well. And to a lesser extent, the Creed films.

Fury Road is another good example. And I suppose The Force Awakens. Heck, the Blade Runner sequel and the last couple Alien films were cool. But I hear what you’re saying, there have been plenty of lame ones (like Die Hard, and that Indiana Jones movie with Shia LaBeuf.

I just think the LW cast is so full of great personalities, you really couldn’t go wrong. Plus, if Mel is involved...it has a heck of a good chance.

reply

Most recent Gibson films aren't that great - in other words, he's on decline - and LW4 was already the worst of the bunch - and given Gibson's decline in film quality, LW5 is going to be yet another downer. It's not the acting that's the problem - but the writing. Writing in films is pretty crappy these days - most decent writers are all doing TV series.

reply

Mel hasn’t had much creative input in the stuff he’s been doing since he was partially blackballed by Harvey W and others about 12 years ago. The one film he DID direct (Hacksaw Ridge) was a huge hit. And I think the vast majority of people feel...even in these latest poorly-written and poorly-produced films he has participated in, he has still been great, and the best part of those films.

So, you have the return of a stellar cast....you have a fantastic director...you get Shane Black to write the script, and you show recent Hollywood woke pussies how it’s done.

reply

Shane Black is a bit of hit a miss. And don't get me wrong, I like his movies, The Nice Guys is definitely my favorite comedy in the last 5-10 years. His comedic style is brilliant, and he's as great as you get writing buddy interactions. But that's it, don't take him out of that comfort zone.

As a writer for Lethal Weapon 5? OH YEAH. As a writer for that promised Viking movie? I don't see it...

reply

British were Christianized at the time I think they are the good guys this time

reply

It's a damn shame we didn't get Viking Apocalypto yet...Chris Hemsworth or Kellan Lutz or both are great casting choices
