I'm primarily a Horror fan so I trend towards his Horror efforts as opposed to Escape From New York and Big Trouble In Little China.

i realize the top 2 aren't his best, & in some ways might rate among his weaker films...but if you told me 'you have to watch a john carpenter film right now' i'd choose on of those.
