What a great actor

I love every movie he's been in. He was great in Key Largo and Little Caesar.

reply

He was definitely one of the greats, he also was a great human being who was one of the first American movie stars to lash out against the Nazi's!

reply

I agree. He was fantastic.

reply

one of my favs.

reply

Brilliant actor, I've not seen enough of his films but I'm slowly amending that, I loved him in Key Largo!

reply

One of the greatest.

reply

Superb as villain or as hardboiled good guy, and he had terrific comic timing to boot - one of the greats for sure.

reply

Heck yeah----if you're seen Double Indemnity, Fred McMurray was the actual star, but Robinson's character, who's trying to solve the mystery, steals just about every scene he's in, and got a well-deserved nomination for it.

reply

If only! Robinson was indeed brilliant in that film but he was ignored. He's actually possibly the greatest actor never to have been nominated for an Oscar.

Back then the studio determined which category an actor was placed in, and Robinson would certainly have been placed as a lead despite having a supporting role. This placement (back then nominating a major star as supporting was unthinkable) probably cost him a nomination for his wonderful performance.

reply

In his day, he was regarded by his peers as an "actor's actor", so I'm still kind of surprised that he never got an Oscar. Maybe it was because he didn't get that many show Oscar-bait roles?

reply

Maybe he didn't care about things like that.

reply

Robinson, Cagney and Bogart were like the Trinity.
