do you feel you are wasting your time on movie chat?

in a world where people get paid from ideas and social media content?(and how insane and stupid that can be if not educated well and/or have mental health issues)

this is just an empty space like reddit or facebook where your ideas dont really matter and you will not get credit for them and get some kind of revenue from them like youtube or Instagram or tiktok

only thing i like about movie chat is that it's "a little" safer to get crazy and say stupid things because it is traditionally not your social media

reply

I don't feel like it is a waste because we can recommend movies to other posters and they can recommend movies for us. We can also have interesting discussions on films and other topics.

reply

but exchanging ideas is kind of working against you is all i'm saying. i'm not interesting enough to go viral but im just as smart as like some of these talking head political commentators like kyle kulinski or whatever

didn't mean to get political but it's just if i wasn't poor and have mental struggles , I want my ideas to matter and they really don't

reply

I want my ideas to matter and they really don't

It's too ambitious.

No. Not really. Or at least no more so than I'd be wasting time anywhere else online. I mean, it's pretty much all a waste of time, isn't it? I could be building the Taj Mahal out of matchsticks instead of writing these words. More fool me.

But at least on an old-fashioned message board like this one you can waste your time in full paragraphs if you need to.

And no-one is tailoring their contributions for dopamine hits from 'likes' and 'follows' or -- worse -- to make money. That stuff distorts conversation to the point it's just a meaningless wall of shite. There was a better signal to noise ratio before internet communication was overtaken by social media.

Oh, one last thing: don't forget to smash that like button. Subscribe if you haven't already. And you can get some of my longer thoughts about movies if you join our Patreon...

Great point, and well said.

people who make a living on social media are just prostitutes to me. i have no respect for them. i see places like moviechat as an online version of pub talk. just a bunch of mates shooting the shit about movies and the state of the world.

reply

I just want to discuss movies or whatever. I have no interest in promoting myself via those platforms, or trying to monetize my ideas.

Also I don’t really see the upside. No one really seems to have a problem with doxing people and harassing them at work, or attacking their family any more, so I don’t know why anyone would volunteer any personal info.

reply

I don't want coins thrown at me for my ideas, I like to share them here freely. First time I heard someone praise youtube, Instagram and tiktok as places suitable for sharing Ideas, social media must have taken a toll on you

reply

Waste is completely subjective to each person.
Everyone gets 100 years to do what youwant.

I LOOK AT THE OPPOSITE WAY...I AM GOING TO WATCH A LOT OF MOVIES NO MATTER WHAT...HAVING MOVIECHAT HAS ENABLED ME TO INTERACT WITH OTHER PEOPLE WHILE I AM WATCHING MOVIES...IT HAS EVEN GIVEN ME A STRONG POOL OF MOVIECHAT FRIENDS THAT I LOOK FORWARD TO INTERACTING WITH.
