Christmas time is here

At least at the local Cracker Barrel where they have a tree and a section already on display.

reply

Also on Hallmark Channel: Christmas in July!

reply

I will never understand why Hallmark does this. It's the middle of summer, the heat and humidity are miserable and they are showing Christmas movies ...?!? Who wants to see that?
Christmas is supposed to be a special time of year. This cheapens the experience.

reply

Not sure how and when the "Christmas in July" thing started, but it really is a stupid idea.

reply

There's money involved... where, I don't know. I've been through the channel listings and it appears they run these movies every day of the week...!! Talk about oversaturation.

There have been times in December when I've overheard people saying, "I will be glad when Christmas is over. " This is sad.

reply

I don’t enjoy it anymore.

reply

I'm sorry to hear that.

The holiday season (Halloween through New Years Day) is the only time of the year that I look forward to.

reply

Well, it is a busy time of the year - dinners, parties, shows, kids out of school. By the time New Year's hits, most people need a break.

reply

I noticed on TCM about a week ago that they were playing Christmas movies one night.

After every time he says "Christmas" say "NOT"

reply

I went shopping for furniture yesterday, and the home stores were actually full of Halloween crap, not Christimas crap.

reply

Home Goods has more Halloween decorations than I can ever recall, but Hobby Lobby doesn't do Halloween so they started putting Christmas up starting July 1st. I like shopping there, but that is crazy.

reply

I'm trying to ride out a heat wave and then see this nutty shit, which I swear, makes me want to go off the grid. 🤨

reply

Is it possible to live off the grid, and still have air conditioning???

reply

I have lived in my current residence for over 17 years and have resorted to using my central air conditioning only a handful of times. It's known as being acclimated.🙄

reply

I live in a notoriously hot region, and my electric bill for July was just about $100.

I only use the AC when the temp is pushing 100, but I do use it when the temp is pushing 100 and up. People without AC can die in heat waves.

reply

I wish that was my bill - ours is $325 mo, even billing and we are very conservative with usage. I live in a very old, large house with radiators, so we have window units but only cool the rooms we are in.

reply

I live in an apartment, which does rather save on plumbing bills and electricity.

My apartment is in a very nice area, life is good! Hot, but good, because I like feeling the natural world I just leave the windows open for about 80% of the year.

reply

I love fresh air - we only cool when it gets really hot and or humid.

reply

Ha 100$ for A/C that would be sooo nice. My summer AC bills are all over 170$.

reply

Once Fire Season gets going, my AC bills will probably jump! You won't see me leaving the windows open when the air is full of smoke and I need to use the AC as an air filter, as well as an air cooler.

So far it's just getting going in SoCal, because of the wet winter the wildfires are going to be late this year. But they'll be here...

reply

You cannot complain living in SoCal. I lived there for 16 years with no A/C and it was fine. Hey maybe global warming is real, because this was 30 year ago...hmmmm

reply

I spent my first forty-odd years living without air conditioning! So while that did serve to acclimate me to the normal local climate, with its hot and cold moods, life is just fucking better if you've got an AC ready to go when shit gets over 100 degrees.

This is NoCal here, where we've been having >100 heat waves, and where I'm watching the red markers slowly creep up the Calfire map...

reply

Oh please don't be a baby:) I'm in Tucson. Its been 105 or above for the last month. I have to shop at Walmart for everything, because its the only place near me with covered parking.

reply

Hey, I'm planning to go to Tucson in a couple of weeks! So far the forecast for mid-August is below 100, presumably because the Monsoon season will be well underway.

But you won't see me at the Walmart, that's one company I don't give my money to.

reply

We love our Cracker Barrel around here but forget that noise!

It’s SUMMERTIME, DOWN with the Back To School and Holiday shopping ads!!!

reply

Oh I remember when the phrase "Back To School" was absolutely dreaded (at least, by me)!

reply

It’s the crazy moms that drive this phenomenon (and I say this with love). This lady has a hilarious short video about it

The holiday season is a special time of year, and these stores are ruining it by trivializing the experience. There should be no Christmas displays in the middle of the miserable summer. The same applies to the other holidays.

August 1st should be back-to-school time. There is no reason to be setting up Halloween displays and selling candy before October. And they can wait until December 1st for the Christmas displays and music.

reply

I don't have any problem with Halloween after Labor Day. It's a really big deal around here - lots of parties start mid October.

reply

I always look forward to fall time and Halloween because it's the start of the holiday season. But seeing a Halloween candy display in mid-July cheapens it.

reply

That is funny - Halloween really isn't what I consider to be a classy holiday. It's usually over the top silliness.

reply

It's not "classy" but it is fun. I consider it the kickoff to the upcoming holiday season that runs until New Years Day.

reply

Just say no.

reply

Well I'm watching a lot of Halloween movies. I watched one, and now I just keep 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon...ing it. It's all the recommendations I'm getting, so I'm just going with it.
