Are we addicted to water?
We cannot live without it. But it has no chemicals and no calories, no taste. Why can we not live without water?

shareThey say that water is the universal solvent. But actually aqueous methanol or ethanol would be a more universal solvent.
shareI'm intrigued and repulsed. Tell me more, kouki no sensei.
sharelow molecular-weight alcohols (esp. methanol & ethanol) mix with water, they are miscible.
water dissolves blood, sugars, salts, non-oily substances
a water-alcohol solution of high concentration will dissolve both non-oily (polar) and oily (non-polar) substances.
We're less addicted to water than fish!
We can go a whole day without a hit, a fish without water doesn't last a minute. Well, five minutes.
"But it has no chemicals"
Water itself is a chemical, just like every other tangible thing in the universe is. And unless you're drinking pure H2O (which is next to impossible; the closest thing would be distilled water), there are also other chemicals in it.
"Why can we not live without water?"
Is that a serious question? Without water we can't have blood for starters. Have you ever seen dried blood? How well do you think that would flow through blood vessels? We couldn't have functional blood vessels or any other type of soft tissues either. Take away water from soft tissues and you get beef jerky, but even drier (beef jerky is about 25% water). None of your body parts can function without water, and someone with no functioning body parts is known as "dead."
He's obviously talking about water as a beverage by itself. There are people who get all their water from other beverages, and never drink it straight.
But yeah, it's a stupid question.
Water is a chemical, and it's packed with vitamins.
shareno it doesn't
shareWater is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula H2O. It is a transparent, tasteless, odorless, and nearly colorless chemical substance, and it is the main constituent of Earth's hydrosphere and the fluids of all known living organisms (in which it acts as a solvent).
shareOpen up a human biology book and look up one of the most important elements found in our living cells. I have yet to hear of a living creature on this planet that could survive without water (and no, Tardigrades and desert shrimp don't count). It's not an addiction, it's a necessity.
shareI would stay far far away from hydrogen hydroxide if I were you...
shareDihydrogen monoxide, also known as oxidane, is an essential but potentially dangerous chemical compound. Without it we would die, but too much can lead to asphyxiation. It can be hazardous when encountered in its solid state, facilitating loss of balance, which results in falls and subsequent injuries.
shareAs alcoholic comedian W.C Fields liked to say:
"I never drink water. Fish fuck in it!".
