Saddest films of all time?

Not soppy romcoms or teenage drivel, I want the most sulking, Lynchnian, Bela Tarr-style level of abandoned hopelessness and misery. Please recommend things that are designed to be as emotionally exhausting and damaging to your psyche as possible. Thanks and god bless.

November (2017)
Lilya 4-Ever (2002)
Detachment (2011)
Ordet (1955)
Happiness (1998)

reply

Thanks, will definitely check out Ordet

Considering you mentioned Tarr and Lynch, November definitely fits into those two directors.

Requeim for a Dream [2000]

I agree with you.

No the Japs had it coming and I have no time for their attempt to recast themselves as the victims of WW2 in ' Grave of the Fireflies '.
