I HAVE NOTICED THAT THERE ARE DIFFERENT GROUPINGS HERE...THE POLITICAL ANIMALS...THE GENERAL DISCUSSION BUNCH...THE BOARD SPECIFIC POSTERS...SOME OF WHICH OVERLAP...SOME OF WHICH DO NOT...IGNORING THE POLITCAL ANIMALS THAT WE COULD ALL DO WITHOUT...THAT LEAVES ME AT MY CURRENT THINKING...FROM NOW ON I AM GOING TO DO DOUBLE POSTS ON CERTAIN SUBJECTS...ONE ON THE FILM'S BOARD AND ONE IN GENERAL DISCUSSION...BRIDGING THE GROUP GAP IF YOU WILL...THE MORE "ON TOPIC" POSTS THE BETTER IS HOW I SEE IT.

I've suggested this kind of thing before. If you're trying to "wake up" a particular board, add your comment to that board, and then post a link to that board here on GD.

There was a certain poster who I suggested this to (in the nicest possible way) and they basically said that they would just carry on doing whatever that wanted and that no one was going to tell them what to do 🤷‍♂️

It's movie chat, please chat about movies and remove the political figures from the trending section. I don't care about the politics board, but the trending political figures sucks. I suspect the site needs it to stay alive.

MC created the Politics Board in order to stop political figures aka: Trump, from trending because people were complaining. There isn't supposed to be any political discussion on any person's boards - just Politics - which would stop the political trending. But, people stopped following the MC rules.

That is not accurate. The prohibition of political discussion only applies to the General Discussion board.

I did let MovieChat's owner know that many members would prefer political figures be removed from the Trending bar, but have not yet received a response.

I remember political posts being purged from Trump's board and other posters complaining about his almost 24/7 photo trending. I thought it was funny, but I can see how others would be annoyed.

Mod 3 is gone. Very nice person, but we disagreed from time to time including on this issue.

The fact is that I never received any direction from Jim, MovieChat's owner, with respect to any additional rules beyond "no politics on the General Discussion board".

Nor would such rules make any sense. How can we have boards for dozens and dozens of public figures who are mainly, if not exclusively, known for their political activities while banning political discussion on those boards?

Many thought the same as you do about allowing political discussion on politicians' boards. The problem is their face will pop-up in trending.

Some of IMDb's most popular boards were of political figures. I'm thinking of the George W Bush board in particular. It was one of IMDb's most active.

This site, like IMDb, covers all media. And politicians, like or not, are media stars.

I see no reason why politicians can't trend. It lets those who are interested know a discussion is ongoing.

Why does that bother anybody? Do they complain to IMDb that a politician has a page?

Recent posts on those boards would still be accessible via the Latest Posts section for those who are interested.

Why does it bother anybody? Some people are very against seeing anything even remotely related to politics outside of the Politics board, and some others just don't want to see pics of Trump or Biden all the time.

My own view is that those spaces are much better utilized when occupied by movie posters because the Trending bar is the most prominent element on the home page and the best means of driving traffic. I would go a step further and add a third picture slider exclusively for actors. Something like this (with less Arthur Freed)

On IMDb I never posted on the general discussion boards (https://web.archive.org/web/20100326115053/http://www.imdb.com/boards/), I posted on film/tv show/person specific boards. Here on MC it is the opposite, 95% of my posts are on GD, I only occasionally post on specific board. Not enough traffic would be the biggest reason. I sometimes miss the comradery of the Seinfeld board and the Upstairs, Downstairs board.

I didn't know there was a general board on IMDB. I only posted on specific boards for films, shows and persons which were more active. I could watch a series like Walking Dead and know there would be lively commentary (and trolling) after each episode. Even obscure movies would have many posts.

Looking at my link, I don't think that there is anything that directly translates to MC General Discussion. Maybe "Film General" under 'Film Talk.' Under 'General Boards' there are many sub categories. I don't think I participated on any of these, the entire linked page.

The one major MC improvement is the notifications. IMDB didn't have that.

I don't normally do Latest Posts. I open the Politics and General pages to see if there are any interesting topics and I look at the trending topics. I used to follow a few politics posters who were very educational, but I think they were banned.
