Who here celebrates Boxing Day?

reply

I don't really "celebrate" it, but we do have Boxing Day here.

reply

Where is here pray tell?

reply

Canada

reply

I drink my weight in alcohol if that’s what you mean.

reply

You are obviously Irish!

reply

I’m half Irish, so yeah.

reply

In between the footy, the travelling and your business, how do you even have the time to drink so much?

reply

It’s an art.

reply

🙋🏻‍♀️ ... in theory at least. I always work boxing day.

reply

I try to have the day off, whenever possible!

reply

I compromise as I like to have new year's day off. So I do boxing day and my manager does NY day.

reply

I always observe that holiday by staying inside a large corrugated cardboard box watching “Boxing Helena”.

reply

You are obviously NOT a good Irish fellow.

reply

From reading about, and watching movies/tv shows that take place during Victorian/Edwardian times, I know about Boxing Day as the day after Christmas when servants receive gifts from their employer, the servants having had to work on Christmas Day. But what is it now?

reply

Extra day off work or double pay if you have to work.

reply

HaHa...I meant of course what is it celebrating/commemorating/observing (if anything).

reply

No nothing. Just celebrating not being at work lol.

There's the boxing day parade in London which is something to do with the Queen's (now King's) Guards I think but I never paid any attention to it 🤷🏻‍♀️.

reply

We recognise Boxing Day in the UK. I never work it.

reply

it's a holiday in canada. when i was a kid it everyone would drop by and my father would break out the accordion.

reply

It’s not a thing here in The States, we’ve heard of it though.
