Drones
Seems like every movie these days is using drones to get aerial shots, also some action shots like in the Gray man or ambulance. I'm a fan sometimes, but also sometimes it doesn't sit right with me. What are all your thoughts?

shareI’ve noticed this a lot in recent years and I like it, I feel like it sets the scene (battlefield, manhunt, etc.) very well, saves fuel and cuts down on noise pollution.
I like drone shots.
You damn hippie!
shareLOL😆
Every so often I get called a ‘hippie’ or a ‘Liberal’ on here. It cracks me up…not even close Pal.
But seriously, I just watched a show last night that used some drones and the footage was flawless, it gave me an idea of the scale of the territory I would not have known without the drone shots.
I think drone shots are really economical and awesome. A great movie making innovation👍
Hey man I agree with all your points poindexter. I love me some good drone shots, I just hate that some movies overuse or rely on them for 'production value '.
sharePoindexter? Fuck you. I hope you choke to death sucking on your own dick you Carnival Geek.
I actually haven’t seen a misuse of this tech and I often find it adds scale and visual beauty to the story.
Can you cite examples of where drones were overused?
Maybe overused was the wrong word. But when it's obvious it's a drone filming, it bring me out of it for some
reason.
Fair enough, I don’t feel that way but to each their own.
shareYOU SOUND LIKE A DRONIST. NOEMOJI

ALRIGHTY. NOEMOJI
shareYour typo aside is the word ‘nigger’ supposed to elicit a response?
Up your trolling game, you are a weak goofball.
Not sure. Can't remember my purpose. But I'm not and have never been against words. I don't care if words are frowned upon, they are just words. Sticks and stones and such.
shareI've thought about buying a photo drone, I'm a nature photographer and a birder in my spare time, and I really like some of the drone shots I see.
Occasionally I get vague ideas about learning how to be a drone photographer on the professional level, as a way out of needing a real job, but I have no idea how you get to be good enough to turn pro.
You're real close already. If you like it, and have a passion, you have a chance of succeeding.
shareThanks! But I expect the way you get to turn pro is you spend a monumental amount of money on top equipment, so as I'm cheap that's kind of a barrier.
Besides, I have a fun new job and a new kitten at home, so no hurry on the next career move.
it's fine for long shots.
shareNo need to drone on about it, lol.
shareI don't like them. Something about it looks weird.
shareIs that rigjt
shareIs there a way to tell the difference between a drone cam and a helicopter? Many movie shots still use helicopters sweeping over the landscape with cameras. Do drones do it differently?
shareI can tell the difference .
shareBut how?
shareGood question, bad answer. I just can.
shareThe only way I could tell, for example, in a football game, was because I could see little drones floating over the field, and the views you could get over the field were much better than in times past. The tv camera technicians could get sweeping views of the field while flying over the players' heads, something you wouldn't have been able to get in the days before drones.
shareWell that's pretty much it. If the shot is impossible without a drone it's a drone.
shareWell if the scene is shot on actual film as opposed to recorded on digital video it would probably have to be a helicopter since a film camera would be larger and heavier than a digital camera.
