Andy Kaufman. Funny or not?

I never really got the guy. I would say no.

reply

No. He was weird.

reply

No.

reply

latka was annoying after awhile.

reply

funny. extremely so.

reply

I vote yes. Although he was more committed to confusing and alienating audiences than making them laugh with any traditional forms of comedy, so I can perfectly understand why people would say no.

reply

Good assessment.
His was an awkward sort of comedy and not always hilarious, it was more like daring the audience to boo him…strange dude for sure!

reply

Yeah. Exactly. And I admire him for sticking to that path. Most performers seek some sort of audience approval. Not Andy Kaufman.

reply

I never understood his appeal, either. I felt the same way about Chevy Chase. People would rave about these two guys, but I didn't get it.

reply

One of the few celebrities outside of the pro wrestling world who recognized its potential as an artistic platform. Way ahead of the curve, doing comedy decades ahead of his time.

reply

I knew someone who was Andy Kaufman's roommate in Chicago, before he became famous. He told me that Andy said to him once, "You've GOT to see my Elvis Presley impression!"

"Pro" wresting has always been fake (predetermined outcomes.) The wrestlers themselves admitted this in a New York courtroom in the late 1980s. It's a shame that real wrestling, as in high school, college and the Olympics, never became a sport outside those venues.

reply

Nobody wants to see two grown men in tights grind and sweat all over each other .. oh wait. Nvm

reply

he was mocking it.

reply

Absolutely not

reply

No. Not a fan
