Discontinued items you miss.

I'm aware that there was a topic like this recently but I'm too lazy to find it and bring it up. Anyway, name some:

Popeye's Cajun Fried Rice
Popeye's Cajun Fish
Popeye's Chicken Bowl (I think that was what it was called: red beans and rice mixed with chicken and topped with cheese. Came with a packet of sour cream to add even more flavor.)
Popeye's Jambalaya
Popeye's Gumbo

I think you may notice a pattern with me here.....

I loved getting Popeye's Popcorn Shrimp from my nearest location. I'd order a "large", and they would almost fill the whole box (the large Cajun Fries box) full of popcorn shrimp but after Covid hit, I think management was changed and then the only size they would allow me to purchase was an extremely small box (prolly smaller than Panda Express's small 3rd option box).

I miss getting my large box full of Popeye's shrimp :/

Oh, and Tomato flavored Cup-A-Noodle soup.
*Excuse my grammar.

Clam dip in general disappeared about dozen years ago due to meddling by the government...

What happened to my clam dip?

“Due to the recent challenges created to meet the Seafood protocol of the FDA we had to discontinue the manufacturing of the Heluva Good New England Clam Dip,” came the swift and certain reply.

...but even back then, Heluva Good brand was the only one left, and they didn't hold a candle to the Kraft brand that Mom used to buy when I was a kid in the '80s. That stuff disappeared, from around here at least, at some point in the mid or late 1990s.

Humpty Dumpty BBQ flavor potato chips. They still exist but it's in name only. Humpty Dumpty was originally a Maine company, and their BBQ chips had a great flavor with a lot of heat with no noticeable sweetness, unlike other brands like Lay's, whose BBQ chips have zero heat and lots of sugar. Around 2000 they were sold to a Canadian company and the BBQ flavor got neutered. It's still better than other brands, but nearly all of the heat is gone.

Combos Mustard Pretzel

Eagle Snacks pretzels (they were shaped like the Anheuser-Busch logo).

School hot lunch, which was effectively discontinued for me when I graduated. Actually, the best version of hot lunch was discontinued for me when I started high school; it wasn't as good as the hot lunch they served at the primary/middle school. In high school the items were different and it was "à la carte." I was supposed to be impressed that they had pizza (which they never had in primary/middle school), but it was the worst pizza ever (spongy "crust" being the main problem with it) and they never had any of the best stuff that the primary/middle school had, like chicken gravy over rice.

As for Popeyes, at least you [presumably] have one nearby. They built one in Newport, Maine in the late 1980s and I loved their chicken. However, in the late 1990s or early 2000s it got replaced with a Burger King. There are only three of them in Maine now, the closest one being about an hour and 15 minute drive, one-way.

Yes, I do have several Popeyes nearby.

That must be a bummer that they are far from you, though.

I believe you are remembering this thread:

This is what I had posted:

Remember the Twinkies Panic of 2011? The Hostess Company had shut down but was soon revived under the same name but with different owners.

Hostess products were at one time one of my favorites. The new products are definitely inferior and smaller in size. Hostess CupCakes are now dry and topped with a thin, brittle layer of frosting that shatters when you bite into it. The frosting used to be thicker and was more moist and creamy. I stopped buying Hostess snacks after this.

Dolly Madison Zingers were another one of my favorites that took a downturn. I found out the reason: the same company that revived the Hostess name took over Dolly Madison in 2013. Another brand to cross off my list.

True bakeries seem to be disappearing, too, and are being replaced with the in-store bakery departments found at the supermarket chains. These products are pre-mixed somewhere else, sent to the individual stores to be baked or reheated, then are touted as being "made fresh daily." The difference in taste and quality is obvious. Did they truly believe customers wouldn't notice?

Yet people continue to purchase these inferior items.
