The Princess Bride (1987).

Briefly speaking, and without providing a link (I am sure you all know this movie), what do we all think of this classic 80s flick, a classic and acclaimed fairytale, starring the guy Cary Elwes who later will go on to appear in flicks like "Kiss the Girls" (1997) and "Saw" (2004) and Robin Wright, and how do we rate it out of 10? Thanks.

Also, what, to you, is the moral of this movie's story and its message? Love conquers all? Good should defeat evil? Actions have consequences?

Thanks.

P.S. In 2003, there was a violent Japanese film that is not officially a remake of it but is heavily based on it called "The Princess Blade", if you want perhaps a lesser good but more adult version of the classic fairytale, feel free to check it out one day, thanks.

10/10...IT IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE FILMS...I THINK THE FILM IMPARTS NUMEROUS MESSAGES...INCLUDING ALL THE ONES YOU MENTIONED...WRITER,DIRECTOR,ACTORS,MUSIC,SETS....THE FILM HAS EVERYTHING WORKING FOR IT.

I probably wouldn't go as far as to rate it a perfect 10 but yes it is generally a solid movie though its been a few years since I saw it and will need to see it again to be sure of all its details and plot elements.

Not really the biggest fan of fairytales especially these days but now again can check one out.

But I can see why many consider it a classic and since Japanese have also made their own violent version of it with Princess Blade, the movie must be fairly popular in Japan too.

10/10

Moral: Never give up.

To quote George Benson - "Never give up on the good thing. Remember what makes you happy."

reply

I think it is good, but not great. It's an enjoyable film, but nowhere near as good as some people make it out to be. Moral is a combination of love conquering all and good over evil. 7/10.

reply

This. I've always liked it, but I've never quite understood why so many people consider it to be such a masterpiece.

reply

Agreed. I finally got around to seeing it within the last year or so, mostly because I had just seen the HBO doc on Andre the Giant. I thought it was ok. 7/10 seems right.

reply

everyone seems to love this movie. i barely remember it.

reply

Overrated. Come at me, fanboys.

One of my favorite movies ever, it's right up there with Conan, Star Wars, Jaws as a greatest movie ever made

The Princess Bride had Comedy, action, romance, a killer cast, and Bronx Boy Peter Falk was in it! Perfect 10!

I got dropped off by mom
with my kid sister and two little girl cousins to see it, we wound up sitting in front of a big group of black kids...you know where this is going lol:)

They were loud as hell and I turned around and politely told them to 'pipe down, cool it already!' and I nearly got murdered😂
Luckily I'm a large fellow...they followed us to the parking lot after the film but they had nothing, just ghetto noise, slum profanity and cowardly shouting...I didn't even have a weapon that day, that taught me a lesson

Carry, always carry a stabber (a long thin screwdriver is perfectly legal, a hunting knife is harder to explain👍)

reply

Never seen it.

reply

Well, you should, unless you don't want to, either way.

It's heaps of fun and highly quotable.

But it's one of those movies that probably means more to folk who saw it at a young age. If you're a fully-grown adult who comes to The Princess Bride for the first time, your reaction is likely to be 'Yeah. Enjoyable. I can see why people like that.' But you're unlikely to really take it into your heart unless you saw it around the age of 9 or 10, I suspect.

But it's a classic kids/family movie. There aren't many better. And I did first see it as a kid, so 5/5.

It is definitely fun and highly quotable. I first saw it as a kid too, but I'd probably give it a 6 or 7/10. Liked it; never loved it.
