People can't wrap their heads around this photo that appears to show Jimmy Carter and his wife looking so small compared to Joe Biden and his wife. Hollywood couldn't dream of force perspective this good.

They are both in their 90s I assume and likely won’t be around much longer. Dementia Joe will make his way to the old folks home soon enough.

shareYeah, I saw on the news after I posted that, the photo was released by the "Carter Center," whatever that is. I wonder when the photo was taken? There's no reason to automatically assume it's recent. Let's say it was taken ten years ago, when Biden was VP. In 2011, both Carters were in their mid-eighties, Joe Biden was nearly seventy, and Jill Biden was sixty. That seems to me more consistent with their appearances here. And it wouldn't be the first time politicians and the media have pulled that trick either -- during the 2016 campaign, NBC paired years-old photos of Hillary Clinton with stories of her recent activities, making her look younger.

shareI saw another news item, with video of them walking outside afterward and Biden putting a mask on. So it seems to be recent.
It's quite bizarre they'd release that photo at all, just because it looks so goofy. If the President and First Lady were guests in your home, wouldn't you find a couple of chairs for them to sit in? I would.
I've been by the Carters' home, a few years ago. The place looked like a fortress. There was a metal fence across the driveway, and a sign saying "don't pull in unless you have business here, not even to turn your car around." Former Presidents can keep Secret Service protection but aren't required to, and IIRC Richard Nixon waived his. I don't have to wonder if Carter has kept it.
I don't understand how their people saw the picture and went, "let's go with this one." This is some Eternal Sunshine force perspective.

That's what ultra-wide angle lends is for. It captures a big section of area at relatively close range. I use them for landscape photography.
shareI've seen it, too. I think it's a combination of the camera, perspective, and the fact that older people do shrink in height due to many years of "fighting" gravity.
