If you like tension without the bullshit, check this movie out. It's rare I give a movie an 8/10, especially nowadays

I have access to TCM but usually miss a bunch of great classics but I caught this one about 2 weeks ago. Really really good.

Saturday's Children (1940)

10/10

Niagara (1953)

Nice little technicolor noir and more proof that Marilyn Monroe was far more talented than most give her credit for.

What did you think of "The Last Tycoon"? I consider myself a fan of Kazan's movies, but for 20 years, all I've heard was how bad it was.

reply

I thought it was really good. One of those movies with just a lot of talking but really good talking.

I like dialogue-driven movies... I'll expedite it. Thanks!

About a year ago I finally watched How the West Was Won (1962) on TCM.

For the longest time I avoided it because of it's length.

The only movie I can think of that had a actual REAL buffalo stampede in a scene with actors/stuntmen..it was so sweet. Worth watching just for that scene alone. Hollywood could not do that scene today with real Buffalo.

Lawrence of Arabia (1962) Restored Version. I don't know if this counts because I did see the original with my dad when it was theatrically re-released in the early 70s. I knew there was a restored director's cut but had never seen it. TCM aired this a couple of months ago and I made sure to DVR it.

I finally got around to watching it about a month ago. Very impressive. Definitely one I will keep on file.
