Anyone else saving a ton of money on food?

I went from occasionally getting fast food, ordering pizzas, and grabbing extra impulse buy snacks at registers, to basically doing none of that. I get stuff from the grocery and cook at home. Maybe once a month at most I will order something to be delivered. This is all because I work from home and am not often in situations where overpriced food is everywhere. Consequently, I have more money in my bank account than ever. The stimulus monies have certainly helped, but I know the food is a big part of my current financial sitch. Anyone else saving more money on food than ever before?

The opposite for me. I used to cook five nights a week. I'm grabbing grub for us on the way home much more often now. I'm doing a lot more fast food for lunch as well. Perhaps it is the manifestation of my mood during the pandemic. Staying happy otherwise.

I don't eat out since the start of the pandemic. Restaurants are high risks. I would rather eat whatever I've cooked at home instead.

I get carry out once or twice a week and occasionally grab some fast food for lunch. I probably am even with not eating out but buying more groceries.
I have saved a considerable amount of money by not traveling
The past 11 months.

Same here. I will be glad when this pandemic is under control. I didn't really go out to eat that often before the virus, but there a few things I crave like White Castle, Arby's and Wendy's. I'm waiting for these to reopen for take-out. I think it will be a long time before I ever eat inside a restaurant until I'm sure it's safe.

reply

I have absolutely no idea, as I have no knowledge of either the hall of the many foods or the room of the cooking.

Neanderthal! That's what you would be...If they existed...Which they didn't!

i've saved a little. nothing really significant. i used to go to the indian buffet down the street every two weeks, and that's gone away, so my restaurant costs are pretty minimal.

but i already had a pretty trim food budget. i buy lots of bulk, lots of beans & lentils & chickpeas & so on - that's what i did pre-covid, that's what i do now, & it's probably what i'll be doing in 5 years assuming i'm still alive and kicking.

I didn't eat out much before, but I can say that the cost of groceries has really gone up in the last year. So, no, I'm not saving money on food. 😥

reply

You spelled munnies wrong. But yes, I have spent much less on food and I believe I even feel a sluggish pulse of blood force it's way through my arteries once in a while.

I used to order out 5 nights a week, I'm a bachelor who doesnt particularly enjoy cooking
Since this began and Ive been working at home I haven't ordered out once, instead Ive been using personal shopper for groceries deliveries and have cooked all meals myself, still Im no gourmet but i can throw together some basics to make a meal
Just do simple math of not having to purchase lunch at work each day and then dinner in the evening, offset by the cost of grocery shopping I feel Im saving 500 a month compared to my old routine

No, but I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico.
