How much was your cat/dog?

I just looked up the breed of Hooch (as in Turner and Hooch).

Selling for $3K-$4K where I live for a puppy. Dear enough.

Got me wondering, what have you paid?

reply

ZERO...PLENTY OF QUALITY WITHOUT INVOLVING A DEVIL.

reply

Nothing.

reply

Because we are away so often and because it would be unfair to the animal, we are a pet free zone.

reply

Nothing. My boy needed a home so I gave him one. There are so many animals euthanised every day I can’t understand why someone would pay for a status breed when they could save a life instead.

People annoy me like that.

reply

I know what you mean and I have always just let strays find me, and my sister is big in an animal rescue organization. Even so, recently my daughter wanted a German Shepard and she saved up 1200.00 and bought one. I have to say it’s an amazing animal. So now we have a German Shepard, rat terrier and what I think is a boxer mix.

reply

I've never paid for an animal. Ever since I started paying for my own stuff, when I had an opening for a pet, someone finds an adorable stray kitten.

I brought a stray kitten home from a Hawaii trip once, that was one feral cat whose descendants wouldn't have added to the decimation of native wildlife.

reply

Did you fly it home on a plane?

reply

Yes, I found a carrier that fit under the seat, and the airline charged me an extra $50 for the privilege of putting the kitten carrier where my "one personal item" would normally go. She took it all well, but then, she always took everything well. One of her nicknames was "Little Miss Perfect", meant without irony, because she actually was perfect.

Animal transport has probably changed since then, it was years ago. Longer ago than a kitty lifetime, as you might gather from the use of the past tense.

reply

That’s a great story. Glad you found a great companion and it was easy for you to bring her home.

$50

I used to have Siberian Husky's, but now it's only cats - and they seem to find me.

reply

Freebie. I had a rodent problem in the house. Got rid of the vermin, and I came up with an idea to prevent it from happening again. A stray cat had been hanging around the area, and I decided to "hire" it. My plan was to not adopt it but give it one meal per day. I figured that would get the cat to hang around the house and scare off any mice.

That was the plan. Of course, the cat had a different idea. He immediately moved right in. So now I've got a full time cat. No cost for the animal itself. But there is the cost of pet food, flea drops, vet calls, etc.

reply

Nothing. I have 1 dog and 3 cats and all are rescues. I have my little doggy 13 years now.
