Should racist movies be banned and removed

from everywhere? I am black and i am highly offended whenever white people make movies that are raciss.

Do you mean ban all films that offend you? You mean like Birth of a Nation and Song of the South? Even though they are classics?
And should we ban Breakfast at Tiffany's because it makes fun of Asians?
And Borat, etc. And then all the ones that are offensive to Me Too and all the ones offensive to GLBTs? Lets see what's left?

reply

Well, the left.

I don't believe in censorship. I'm so tired of people being offended by everything. If you don't like it, don't watch it - speak out against it if that makes you feel better, but don't take away my right to make my own decision whether to watch something or not.

reply

NO...RACISM SUCKS,BUT MOVIES ARE LIKE BOOKS OR ALBUMS OR ART..THEY REPRESENT SOMEONE'S IDEAS ON A SUBJECT,GOOD OR BAD.THEY DONT REPRESENT THE SUBJECT.

reply

Since you misspelled racist twice (raciss) I am guessing you are attempting humor. Or are being trollish.

reply

My troll senses are tingling.

What racist movies are you talking about? I'm struggling to think of any modern movies that depict racist behaviour in a way that endorses it. All the films that come to mind are cautionary tales about the evils of racism.

Can you give me examples of white films you think are racist towards black people?

reply

LOL.

I'm offended by White Men Can't Jump.

reply

Who isn't?

reply

Me too
I can jump just swell for a large white dude and I'm totally offended!

Class action lawsuit pending!!

No, in fact these could be used as teaching tools for the younger generations. They can see what the world was like in the time period of the film, and when it was made. They can see what Political Incorrectness looks like, and see how people back then reacted to it, to get an idea of what was okay back then, vs. what isn't okay today. They can also get an idea of how far society has come in addressing those issues in our culture. It gives a better idea of what people's perspectives were in that time period. It might also be a good idea to discuss what "blackface" and "yellowface" were in the first half of the 20th century, why they were used back in the old days of Hollywood, and why it is not okay to do it now. And yes, it was due to racism.

Parents or teachers could discuss such films to the students or kids watching, and teach them about the past and compare it to now. They can even discuss where these stereotypes came from, why they were allowed to be shown, and why people in the movie industry quit showing them in film. The kids can also use these lessons to be better people as a result.

Best post.

No, because then were just living in denial of reality. Racism, just like sexism, and other forms of discrimination will always be a part of our lives. Unfortunate but true. At least if we can see it in movies, we could possibly gain some understanding of what fuels it, and find out alternate ways of dealing with it in real life.
