Movies about absolutely nothing.

Napoleon Dynamite (2004)
Dazed and Confused (1993)
Naked (1993)

Sleep (1964) - 5 hours and 20 minutes of footage of a man sleeping. I kid you not.

Good going Andy Warhol.

reply

I think you misunderstood. I asked for movies about nothing. "Sleep" sounds like it 's 5.5 hours of high octane action sprinkled with suspense. Definitely a sleeper hit.

reply

Personally, I thought it wasn't woke enough.

Annie Hall (1977)
Claire’s Knee (1970)
Puzzle (2018)

reply

Annie Hall is one of the most overrated best picture winners.

The beach bum

I hate every Harmony Korine movie.

reply

I don't care.

naked is so great. 'my feet are on their last legs' - i wish i could come up with words like that.

maybe i'm coming at this from a different perspective, but i don't consider a movie being about nothing a bad thing. kelly reichardt films usually have minimal or no plot, and she's made some of my favourite films of the last 20 years. maybe this is just a reflection of how old and tired i am, but at this point i prefer focused simplicity and a bit of atmosphere to clockwork plots and 15 characters to hold in your head.

paterson is a good example of a film where nothing really happens yet manages to be perfect.
wendy & lucy is another.

reply

I like Naked and Dazed and Confused. But Napoleon Dynamite is an incredibly unfunny, pointless film.

reply

Big love for Paterson.

Naked is great. I'd recommend nuts in May by the same director. I actually think the movie is very symbolic though but many think it's very boring and about nothing

reply

i watched nuts in may last year, right around this time in fact according to letterbox, on your recommendation i'm pretty sure, and i remember liking it quite a bit.

i recall thinking the keith character kinda foreshadowed the return we've seen in recent years to almost dour, practically victorian humorlessness, with scolds telling us how things aren't to be joked about & so on. or at least that was my take on it.

reply

I'm very appreciative that you heeded my advice.

To me, the movie is about co-habitation, and how difficult it is to live with others. One person wants one thing, the other wants something else. How do we decide? It's a great microcosm of the modern life, especially due to the fact most people live near others.
