Movies aesthetically unpleasant to the eye.

Whether it's ugly set design, visual effects or cinematography.

Super Mario Bros.
Popeye

Battlefield Earth
Yor, Hunter From the Future
Batman v Superman: Dan of Justice
Waterworld

the early Dogme 95 films

reply

I actually don't mind them. They look like documentaries.

reply

video shot in low light with the consumer cams of old is not aesthetically pleasing to the eye

reply

whats wrong with waterworld? do you hate water?

reply

The art direction of whatever the hell you want to call that thing they were all on was absolutely hideous.

reply

what thing they were "all on" , the atol? , the tanker ?, that lovely trimaran?

reply

This thing:

reply

ah.
Well , its a fort , waddya expect?
also the outer wall of that thing isnt a significant part of the movie

reply

movies with a lot of flashing and closeups - Requiem for a Dream was one.

reply

Now that you mention flashing, the movie Spun has editing so quick it felt like flashing lights.

reply

I had to turn off domino because of the lighting and editing. I was super hungover though.

reply

Tony Scott can be a great director, bit he does too much of crap like that.

reply

Whatโ€™s wrong with Yor? Do you hate beautiful cave women ?

reply

I couldn't see them through the muddy cinematography.

reply

Itโ€™s a masterpiece of cinematography!!

reply

I don't even remember that theme. That's terrible. I'm also surprised that this was nominated for 3 Razzies and none of them were for worst picture.

reply

How dare you. ๐Ÿ˜€ hopefully you will participate in Reburary next year to make amends!

reply

Somebody that says that a movie with beautiful women in stone age bikinis is 'aesthetically unpleasant to the eye' needs to see a doctor. Pronto. ๐Ÿ˜„

reply

After the proper treatment, Iโ€™m sure he will have a full recovery. ๐Ÿ‘

reply

The Favourite

reply

I like Yorgos Lanthimos, but the fish eye lens got annoying.

reply

Don't get me wrong, I do like his movies. I really enjoyed this too but I don't think I'll go back to it again voluntarily

reply

I thought hook was great. Agree with your other picks. Waterworld has a couple of great action shots

reply

With Hook, I found there was no big differentiation between the ship and the dock. It just seemed like one blended area. It also lacked colour.

reply

Birdemic
The Florida Project
Spy Kids 3D
Sharkboy and Lavagirl
Bad Boys For Life

reply

I agree 100% with The Florida Project. Too much pink and the area they filmed looked dirty and run down.

reply

Also sound is pretty bad, constant helicopter noises, people screaming, terrible terrible movie experience aesthetically to the eye, and to the ear.

reply

I don't like the Bourne movies from an action aesthetic view. I'm not an action guy in the first place, but the way fight scenes are cut, it's as if they remove cels to speed up the blows and it all looks completely unreal. I'm left thinking, yeah, that didn't just happen.

reply

It's strange that you specifically chose the Bourne movies.

I mean, there's a serious problem with modern action movies. In most of them you just don't know what the hell is happening.

But Greengrass in particular is probably the only one that can do fast cut action scenes and still make the narrative clear at the same time.
