You know what I hate?

People who review or write comments on movies that they didn't like, that say things like "Don't watch this garbage movie", "Avoid this movies, at all costs", "Don't waste your 2 hours (or whatever the run time is) on this dreck", etc.

I mean how do people have such an inflated view of themselves that they think their taste(s) are universal? If you don't like a movie, fine but don't presume to know what others like.

I don't know how many movies I've loved that other "reviewers" told people to not watch.

You may now return to your regularly scheduled program.

Great post! Everyone should take their time to read it!

If someone wants to give their opinion of a movie that doesn't really bother me. If it's something I want to see I generally will regardless. This is a movie forum so it's fair to discuss both movies you like and don't like. I find myself venting on a movie if it's something I was really looking forward to that ends up being a total let down....Batman v Superman comes to mind.

I do find it pretty annoying when someone goes to the board of a long running TV show to bash it and says something along the lines of "this show hasn't been good for the past 6 years." To make such a comment it means either A) They've continued to watch a show that they stopped enjoying 6 years ago in which case that's on them or B) They're commenting on a show they haven't watched in years just to tear down the people that still watch.

I know you can do better.

I'm not going to spend another hour on a poem no one's going to read.😑

reply

here's the last one you wrote

I was travelling down a country lane that seemed without an end
Each time my destination came in sight, there appeared another bend
This winding road turned gloomy, the sky as dark as coal
I felt a sense of dread and fear that crept upon my soul
So I hastened my steps to escape a fate, sinister and unknown
My heavy feet surrendered, became entangled on their own
I stumbled and I tumbled and through the air I spun
And when I finally reached the ground, I'd returned where I'd begun

reply

I did??? It's fantastic!!!

reply

At least one person read it.

reply

And I read it twice! Does that count for two?

reply

It doesn't count.

😔

Well said. I've seen it too and when that's all the kind of "reviews" they give, I generally make my own decision on movies. I don't have much use for critics, anyway.

reply

I get a lot of use out of critics and awards shows. It lets me know what to avoid. Whatever they are raving about or giving tons of awards to is almost a sure bet that I won't like it.

reply

I look at that the same way.

reply

But isn't that the whole point of this site? To discuss the reasons and your opinion as to why you liked or did not like a movie?

I mean I agree if a person writes just "this movies sucks, don't see it" and then offers no more insight or discussion as to why they feel that way.

reply

I completely agree about discussing movies. My point was people who because they didn't like a movie, telling others not to watch it. I think that's presumptuous and lame. Even if they give reasons why they didn't like it, they should not presume others wouldn't like it. Movie (and art) tastes vary widely.

I think the French movie "Inside" is one of the stupidest movies ever made and I have plenty of reasons why, but I would never tell people not to watch it. A lot of people actually like it.

reply

I see what you mean, good point.

reply

I find it funny when people rant about a movie they don't like.

reply

Indeed. :)
