Why do people like hiking so much?
Unless it is very scenic or leading to a scenic location it is just work, and even when it is scenic it’s usually not worth it. I’m not necessarily lazy I just don’t understand the appeal.

shareI love hiking, or even just going for a walk. There are some great walkways to walk in my city that are really peaceful.
shareTo me, "hiking" implies a scenic location. Like hiking in the mountains. I'm a city kid who was never really into it.
shareHiking is like a mini adventure and most people wouldn't even consider it as work. Besides benefiting your physical health, studies have actually shown that exposing yourself to nature, especially the forest can have a very positive effect on your mental health. I try to go on aimless walks at least a few times a week. I mean, what else is there to do? I love movies and tv, but I never watch the tube during the daytime.

I have also felt the pull of the long walk just to calm the senses. A few times, I would take a long walk before a difficult exam. Not that the results were so great, but I wanted to relax enough where whatever I actually had learned was available, and I was less likely to be jumpy. I've even had dreams about taking examinations, where I didn't understand why I was bothering to take it. I hadn't studied properly and might have been hoping to guess well enough to get passed it.
It's all very weird and a little like Real Life, but not True.
I agree that its very calming. Just being in nature and breathing the fresh air is enough to give someone a positive outlook.
As summer turns into fall, I look forward to the changing colors of the leaves. I can walk in the same places and never get tired of it. The transition of seasons always makes it seem new.
Hiking in to places and living off the land is great too.
shareExercising your heart while in a maybe Wild Place is a very Life Affirming event.
Taking a Hike is one of the most exercising and relaxing thing a person can do.
Work can be a drag...locked inside with a ton of people you wouldn't speak to if you weren't getting paid, the crummy commute...
A nice walk in nature can be very calming
It's good for the head
