You have one of mine there in Casablanca

reply

Yes, I'm a '60s buff, but Casablanca is STILL in my top 10!

reply

I tend to like the older ones also when it comes to my favorites.

reply

I have only seen a few but it seems like a solid list Adam👍

I like your list. But Godfather 1 and 2 is two movies not one! I personally think 1 is far superior to 2.

reply

Thanks. I've always considered those two as one movie, so I cheated a little. I think they're both excellent. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's the only case in history of a film and its sequel winning the Best Picture Oscar.

I like your list also.

Which Godfather movie do you like more?

reply

I like them both equally. As for Godfather 3, Meh.

reply

I actually liked 3 more than most did. Of course it would have been much better had they not waited 16 years to film it.

reply

Interesting. You're kind of in the minority there.

Mine are ...

To Kill a Mockingbird
Casablanca
The Apartment
The Godfather Part 2
Jeremiah Johnson
12 Angry Men
Local Hero
The Last of the Mohicans
Forbidden Planet
The Last Samurai
Spartacus

reply

Forbidden planet is one of my top scifi films along with 2001, Star Wars IV, and Logan's Run.

reply

Local Hero is my all time #1 film. By movie's end you feel like you have traveled to Furness, Scotland and made some new friends.

reply

Great list... I love David and Lisa (1962) and the next movie they made, "Ladybug, Ladybug"

reply

Yes, Frank Perry is one of my favorite directors. Another great one is Last Summer (1969) which was Richard Thomas' debut. Also The Swimmer (1968) which was Burt Lancaster's personal fave. Kubrick cast Keir Dullea in 2001 based on his role in David and Lisa!

reply

I saw "Last Summer", which I liked, but it was hard seeing everyone take advantage of the poor defenseless girl. By the time he hit "Diary of a Mad Housewife" it seemed to be over, and the few movies later (one with Keach and Dunaway) was one I couldn't get into.

Its hard to find online, but "Ladybug, Ladybug" is a great movie, from the perspective of children during the Nuclear Era.

Harder than I thought: -

Wizard of Oz (1939)
Star Wars (1977)
Planet of the Apes (1968)
The Time Machine (1960)
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
Falling Down (1993)
Independence Day (1996)
Twelve Monkeys (1995)
Starship Troopers (1997)
Threads (1984)
Goodfellas (1990)

reply

The first 4 are some of my faves. Also 12 Monkeys was a great one. The others not on my list.

reply

Yeah, there’s a bit of cheesiness in there. Top 11 is very difficult, even a top 20-50 would be hard.

reply

the cement garden

Quicksilver was interesting and unknown. About the NYC bike messenger service. I spent a year there as a bike messenger in the '80s also, so can relate!
