Close, but no cigar.

"The CBS Evening News With Walter Cronkite"

reply

I knew you'd get it! 👍

reply

How you doin'?

Sock it to me.

reply

Rowan and Martin's Laugh In!

reply

Veddy interestink, but schtupid.

Recently I watched a couple of episodes of Laugh-In. It wasn't as funny as it was back then. Times have changed.

reply

You bet your sweet bippy! I know what you mean. Even the surprise guest appearances from the likes of John Wayne no longer feel shocking. But then again, it's a comedy based on pop culture and current events from the 60s/70s. The sketches with the red-headed family are still just as funny!

reply

The only surprise during the re-watch was that I'd forgotten some of the huge stars who dropped in. You're right about the pop culture and current events aspect. The timeless comedy shows are the ones that don't rely on current events for their humor. They stick to universal situations.

I think the biggest draw to Laugh-In was that at the time, there was no other show like it.

reply

With even more precision:::

"Sock it to me?"

reply

Poor Judy Carne. She probably had mildew behind her ears for months. 😉

reply

Are you sure? I thought it was President Nixon who said that one.

reply

Of course I'm not sure! Punctuation is everything.

However, Judy Carne got 'socked' more than anyone else, so my mildew-y ears comment still stands. ðŸĪŠ

reply

The Nixon one (as a query) is the one they show on the channel when they're advertising "Laugh In."

reply

I think most people would say Nixon's is the 'classic' version.
