Why is Shakespeare still being performed?

I understand its significance, historical, but why is it still relevant? The dialogue is so clumsy and overstuffed it can't even be followed. Who actually enjoys it?

reply

Is the nature of shakespeare's language to be elaborate because that would be the talent involved? In other words, is it more sophisticated to how people spoke back then?

Entertainment value 0/10
Drama Queen level 10,000!!!

Stop it you! Dazed has a very high entertainment value and created the greatest MC game ever:

Sad to say I could only guess like 2 or 3 of them out of those 3,400 replies, but it was fun trying.

reply

Thanks but I clicked the link and it comes up deleted Tex...which tends to prove both my points...boring drama lady:/

reply

Oops, sorry about that. I found it through Google and it still had the title...you can still see most of the game though. April151CT was an absolute legend at solving them but she has been m.i.a. for months.

reply

Thanks Tex...
You are a fine fellow and i appreciate you
Your dramatic and grumpy lady friend not so much...but then i suppose the feeling is mutual
Oh well, i promise to be polite

'Bye

reply

Because his art is timeless, and some people still have taste even after all the brainwishing superhero movies.

reply

'brainwashing superhero movies'
???
Please explain that...i watch a shitload of those movies and im way less nuts than anyone here

reply

I explain there is too many of them, they're mediocre and seems to me many young people think those are masterpieces. Forget about real cinema or art.

reply

Cool
I like them all just fine
Enjoy your cinema buddy!

reply

I do.

Just because you don't like it or appreciate it doesn't mean it's bad.
Just because it doesn't come in text form or is explained to you doesn't make it bad.

I go to a Shakespeare event every summer.
I see about 5 or 6 plays every year.
It's an amazing experience to be brought to tears by a soliloquy with nothing but words.
No edits, no CG, no special effects, just true acting and dialogue.

If you can never appreciate it then I am sorry for your loss.

reply

Careful... cake has a 'confused' identity and gets very cranky and 'ignores...' im no fan of ignoring but whatever
She hates me and several others here
Shes also a suspected reporter
Tread lightly
Shes no fun and a boring pain in the ass pal

reply

Apparently cake needs to get a life then.

That's what's wrong in this world.
People who don't understand or "get" something are judgmental.
Who are they going to report me to? The MC police?

I had a feeling that a person who posts something like this must have some issues.
I hope the new superhero movie works out well for them.

Oh shit. sorry.
So glad I'm back. :P

Seriously thanks for the heads up.

reply

The pills are harming your health old friend...weve spoken of this before:(
That was a confused mess of nonsense...best wishes
See you around pal!

reply

I totally love that we can start where we left off.

Life is grand isn't it.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!

reply

Im not here to play with punks

reply

Well you better stop playing with yourself then.

reply

That was a bit lame...not trying to be mean buddy
I fear you may have lost a step:(
Makes me sad for the old days when you had something to say

reply

Truth is often spoken in lameness ???

I really never had as step to lose.

You weren't around in the real old days.
This site was actually really nice just about the time before you got here.
I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

Did you guys get any snow or just Stanton?

reply

The rhythm of your posts is very proper and i admire order dewey...well done in technical terms...
But it becomes more boring with every post
First, the stupid random quote nobody cares about
Second, the self deprecataing cute comment so everyone loves you and
Third the passive aggressive insult
PS: yup, i got 4 feet of snow here in Stanton moron...

reply

First- It's actually my own quote this time. Believe it or not.
Second. This is a given. Move on
Third- I have no idea what you're talking about.
You east coast people are so above me that I'm lost.

I seriously have been out of circulation for several weeks.
If you really do have 4 feet of snow better you than me.
I know you do have Stanton so good luck with in the future.

Other than that hugs and kisses.

reply

1. I do believe you
2. Me too...i get it
3. Im sorry...maybe youre correct about my East Coast attitude...if i jumped off wrong i am sorry...thats how it is here (are you in California or smthg???)
4. I have no idea where 'Stanton' is either...i think you made that shit up
Im 60 miles from NYC...never heard of it:/
5. XOXO as well...just like you i love to hate you pal!

reply

I actually had this conversation a few months ago.
Doing conversations with numbers or bullet points.
Get to the point right away. No nonsense.

3. I'm in the middle of the East and West Coast.
I've seen both. No offense but I much prefer where I am.
Nice to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.

4. I didn't make Stanton up. I thought maybe you were a baseball guy.
The Yankees and such. If you're not then more power to you.
It would just be another reason to hate you.

5. This is a misnomer. I don't love to hate you.
I actually hate to love you.

reply

That was some honest stuff:)

reply

Just keepin it real.
I can't change the truth.

reply

Youre like a journalist...
Justbeing honest

Big boys dont like big boys...this is sure to get punchy soon...nobody is backing off here big fella
ETA: i find you charming and witty...

reply

Yeah, this is getting awkward.
I thought by now you would have taken over.

You'll get your chance soon enough buckshot.
I won't be around forever. I'm just making a guest appearance.
Just remember if you do you you'll do fine.

reply

I guess this this is 'bye then bigshot...so bye
And best wishes
You were pretty cool
No hard feelings
Be well
Fuck off;)

reply

Don't worry there sporty spice.
You'll still have me for a little while.

Hopefully long enough for you to learn something.
Although I really don't have that kind of time.
If you pay attention you'll be OK.
At this point you need to be a sponge.
Just absorb all I offer you.
OK sponge?

reply

You make yourself sound sick!?!
I really hope this is not the case
Why do you keep saying 'short time' and such?
You cant be ill pal
We are going to feud for years you jerk!
Right??

reply

It is what it is.
I would love nothing more than to bust your chops
forever. Believe me, it brings me great pleasure.

Just pay attention and learn something.
It's an opportunity of a life time.
You can be the acorn that becomes the mighty oak.

reply

i dont give a shit about that
Are you well friend
If you prefer not to say than dont
But you are making me sad now
This little place we have is good for best wishes and fun
NOBODY is gonna be a fool right now

reply

I appreciate it but let's end it here.

I'll be here for awhile so that's all that matters.
We'll meet again in the ring of honor or whatever
you want to call it.

reply

Best wishes
If i see you again
here im gonna attack you again;)
Otherwise for real be well bro
Youre fun!

reply

I'm just replying because I want to see how narrow the thread can get..

reply

Im with you
Lets keep this up

reply

Keep what up? Getting claustrophobic...

reply

Me as well...lets plunge ahead anyway!

Gaaaak... I'm melting, I'm melting...

No quit in us friend...lets keep going maybe well break on through ...yeah!!!
To the other side

reply

I feel like I'm in an elevator with Rosie O'Donnell and Tom Arnold...

reply

A fine analogy for this hellish trap weve found ourselves in...
Carry on good man!

reply

Getting.. tough.. to ... breathe...

reply

The power of every art is the openness of the audience to use their own imagination - their own interpretation, people dont like to be spoon fed, they want to find themselves in each art, that is the exact reason why for example Bible survived in relevace for so long, it's been written as sort of a poetry open to countless of interpretations, never to be taken literally. This realization alone helped me to start learning how to speak to people as the art itself, to be the art itself, conveying less clarity and giving everyone more space to interpret what I am saying. I am giving people the power back. Being vague, ambiguous carries great power, many people don't realize that this is how people used to speak thousands of years ago, it had a good reason.

reply

Great insight. I agree.

reply

I enjoy it immensely. Yes, reading it is tedious because it is difficult to understand. But when you go see it live, it is completely different. You then see the words as they were meant.
