Hillary Clinton running in 2020?

It's looking more likely as time goes forward. Yes, she is free to comment about Las Vegas just as anybody else but the timing to comment on the same day as the tragedy unfolded tells me she thinks that she is speaking as a leading political figure versus a private citizen.

reply

She's also pushing a book, so that could be it. I don't think she'll get the financial support to run again.

reply

Interesting that you say that. I think if she can't line up the money necessary that she will run as a third party candidate. I think that money will be the only reason she does not run as a Democrat as otherwise she wields a lot of power in that political party. 2020 might be the year a third party candidate has a real chance whether liberal or conservative.

reply

Interesting that you say that. I predicted that Trump would start a third party if he had lost in 2016.

You might be right about the third party thing, but I don't think Hillary is the candidate to make it happen. I think it needs to be someone who has enough true believers behind them, like Bernie Sanders. (Or like Trump, who pulled it off with tepid-at-best support from the GOP.)

Hillary's support always seemed to be rooted much more in being "not Trump" and potentially "first woman POTUS" than in any particular love for her. She's a two-time loser and is widely thought of as flubbing what should have been a fairly easy election to win. I think she also has some serious medical issues that would make another grinding two-year campaign a long shot.

reply

I don't think that Trump has the focus for a multi-year effort. I think he already knows he got more than he bargained for when he won the election.

I think that Hillary has more support than her being a woman. For the election cycle she dug out the 1960's liberal playbook and ran it. She also used the modern spin to shout "racist" at every opportunity when speaking about any Republican.

reply

You could easily be right. I never predicted Trump's victory. But another point is: I think people are getting tired of the old guard. As in, literally "old". Pols of both parties have been hanging on to power for so long it's become unseemly and the wear is starting to show. Pelosi has clearly lost a few steps and is regularly freezing up while speaking in public. How many 80+ year old Senators do we have now? One has a disease that will kill him in short order and in the interim will greatly impair, if not destroy, his ability to function. Yet he refuses to step down. Orrin Hatch, at 83 years old and after serving in the Senate since 1976 is seriously considering running for a seventh term.

What medical issues does she have??

reply

Is that even likely? The last person to lose as a nominee and then go on to win the presidency — or even to get his party’s nomination more than once — was Richard Nixon, who lost the election on a razor-thin margin in 1960 and then won triumphantly in 1968.

reply

Hillary is the most corrupt politician to EVER run for U.S President. Considering how much scum from both parties have either run or won, that's saying something.

When a badly flawed candidate like Trump can actually win the White House, what does that say about Clinton?

Plus, if she ever ran, the right would dig up so much more stuff that was fluffed over that she'd risk indictment and likely prison time.

reply

Hillary Clinton the most corrupt politician to run for U. S. President? Hmm...what about the person who's now sitting in the Oval Office? I think he's far more corrupt that Hillary Clinton ever was/is.

reply

Trump has never been squeaky clean but for the most part has never hidden very much. His dirt including screwing creditors has been out in the open for anybody that cared to look. Clinton goes through a great deal to maintain a certain degree of stealth including going through all the trouble of running a "charity" outside of US borders?

reply

No politician has ever been squeaky clean, but I preferred Hillary Clinton over Trump, and voted for her in the last POTUS Election.

reply

I'm sorry but anybody who feels the need to run a money handling operation deliberately in a manner that prevents legal oversight by the country that they reside in does not promote trust.

reply

Running where? From the law? ;)

reply

I very much doubt that she wants to put herself through that again, or that the Democratic party would run her as their candidate. She would get primaried.
Trump would also get primaried. The Republican party is not happy with him. If he runs at all for a second term it might even be as an independent.
But I really don't think he will want a second term anyway. He liked his life before and I think he will want to go back to it. Being president is not as fun as he thought it would be.

reply

Hillary Clinton has said she is not running for president again. She is a private citizen when she speaks as she does not hold a political office.

reply

Seems to me she also said she wasn't going to run again after she lost to Obama.

But then again, Obama is not Trump.

reply

Did she say it or didn't she? I don't deal in 'seems to me'. I deal in facts. I find it hard to believe she said that since she continued her political career as Secretary of State. Also, it was 9 years ago.

reply

Seems to me she did. Seemingly.

reply

No need to be an ass. I don't believe anything until I see it & then I still question some things, knowing how much garbage is online. When people say they might have seen something or I seem to have seen it, I don't believe it. I can't imagine Clinton running again at her age & I don't think she would have run last year if Biden had run. Because he would have beaten her in the primary. But someone has to run in 2020.

reply

I wrote "seems to me" because I didn't see full text of either the question or her answer in the article, so it might have been an equivocal answer. Lighten up.

reply

It was sarcastic & snarky.

reply

God I hope not. I really want to have seen the last of that corrupt, reactionary warmongering psychopath.

I also doubt the Democrats are politically stupid enough to try that again. Who in their right mind would try again to run a candidate that lost to Donald freaking Trump?

reply

She has a lot of leverage in that party as she knows the dirt on quite a number of figures there. The only thing that would stop her in terms of the Democratic Party goes is not having money to run a campaign including making visits to quite a number of states. My fear is that if she lacks money she will go the independent route and run the campaign from her living room in Chappaqua. She knows she has the admiration of quite a number of dummies so she knows the odds are not as daunting as they may seem to somebody who only takes a casual interest in Clinton.

reply

If her own health doesn't end her, someone will take a play out of her playbook and off her with a bullet behind the ear while on an airplane crashing if she tries to run again. She'll split the already splintered Democratic party even more.
