Things You Do NOT Wanna See In A Movie?

Could be something specific, or something general.. I seem to like non-genre movies, or drama at best. I don't care for an aristocratic kind of movie or people with suits.. If a boat plays a role, chances are I won't like it, because too much filler time is the movement, building of, the same typical things.. I know some won't even attempt a movie with animal cruelty... Nudity or vulgar language.

Also for me, after rating over 5,000 movies on IMDB, I've come to know (many years ago) that I prefer a movie before 1980.. It's a matter of time and probability. When I put on a movie, I have the intention of watching it all (unless the first 30 mins stink) and I anticipate it being a great movie.

I don't like to see animals getting hurt. I don't mean just randomly hurt or like, a horse getting shot in a western battle scene when humans are also getting shot. I don't mean natural things like a lion killing a zebra.
I mean like deliberate animal cruelty done by a person. It's usually done to signal that is a bad bad person. It's a cinematic device. But it just upsets me more than seeing people kill people.

Example: in Preacher, when Tulip adopts the bloodhound in order to feed it's blood to the vampire to help him recover. She's not presented as a bad person, but still she just saw the animals she killed as worthless and expendable. She didn't even try to donate a pint of blood herself, or to steal some blood from a bloodbank, or to even get a cow and take SOME blood from it (but not enough to kill it).
Well I am getting into too much detail here but you get the picture. That dog was so sweet and he thought he was getting a new home and she just killed him. It made me sad.

Agreed Popcorn-
Animal deaths are really sad too
Oddly enough i like hunting tho
Some of my best memories are from the deer camp i go to every year...drinking, poker games, everyone brings a dumb dvd (rodney dangerfield is a deer camp hit lol) shooting a deer in the morning...good times
But yeah ... Dead movie animals are sad AF

Hunting scenes really do not bother me, even reality TV ones like on "Alaska the last frontier".
There is a reason for the killing, they use every part of the animal, they try to kill it quickly and humanely.
I can imagine that a lot of the fun of hunting is just the social side and the special occasion-ness of it. Most people these days do not hunt every day just to live- it's usually once a year and so it's special. It's like a camping trip that happens to include killing a deer, but all the peripheral activity is fun too.

reply

Yeah hunting is great fun-most of it is dumb movies and cases of beer lol
I only get outside to fish or hunt a handful of times each year...kids/wifey/house/work...
And yeah, we eat everything we kill

There is one reality show, I think 'Yukon Men'- there was a scene where these Alaskan or Canadian native people are on a moose hunt and they find several dead moose that had been shot and only the heads were taken for trophies, the rest was left to rot.
That was just an obscenity to them- the meat could have fed their family for the whole winter and they share meat with all the elders who are too old to hunt now. They knew that no one from their village would ever do that- it was outsiders who came on the new road. (the village used to be only accessible by plane or boat but there was a new road.)

reply

Yeah thats a disgusting waste...i didnt see the show
The idiots involved deserve jail time for sure

reply

I know that I have a great deal of difficulty when it comes to cruelty to animals. This has everything to do with the fact that they have no voice when it comes to the torture humans can inflict.
As for nudity and vulgar language????? That all depends on what the movie is about. Is this gratuitous? If so, I'm turned off.

reply

I'd rather not see so many of those jump scares in horror flicks. They are just about as bad as those endings where the villain or the monster has been supposedly killed, but jumps up one last time only to finally be killed again.

Jack Black

Pauley Shore

Adam Sandler

The words, "Written by Akiva Goldsman."

The words, "Directed by Tony Scott."

At the start of the movie, the words, "Based on a true story."

Stan Lee, in any kind of condition at all except for being dead.

Any torture scene, except for the prolonged and remarkably detailed abuse of the film's reprehensible antagonist, and also except for any of the assholes named above.

Eating disgusting shit, both figuratively and literally.

Ditto for drinking.

People wasting perfectly good dope, e.g., flushing it down the toilet, confiscating it.

Beautiful, rare, exotic cars being destroyed.

Beautiful, rare, exotic women being destroyed.

Erotic scenes...

I'm the same as nearly everyone above, I don't like any kind of animal cruelty or child abuse. I know it's a reality but it's hard to watch it. Also, for me, any kind of rape scene is brutal. I'm a woman and I know that's all too common.

too much CGI

reply

Way to much,indeed.

reply

CGI has ruined Sci-fi IMO

reply

And i almost forgot...too much slow motion scenes.

Are you glad you're not the only troll on the board?

reply

I'm glad that i'm not the only one...

reply

Animal cruelty, particularly involving dogs. I can't stand it when a dog gets hurt or killed.

Also I don't want to see anyone puking. Too gross.
