Does playing one video game really well make a person a "gamer"?

I was under the impression that a gamer is a person that plays a lot of video games.

reply

If they play it as a serious hobby, yeah that would count. I think it's more of the time scale and consistency that one plays, not necessarily any amount of variety.

reply

Why not? If you're referring to croft_alice, he plays a lot of video games. He loves one in particular and plays many versions of it.

reply

I see you put me as an example,Catbooks😎

reply

I did :). I see no reason why you wouldn't be referred to as a gamer.

reply

Yeah,well...some people seem to have some suspicions😂😂😂...it doesn't bother me,though...anyway,i'm the only gamer here?

It's not a party until something gets broken

reply

You can't be the only gamer here. Is that really possible??

reply

From what i've seen so far...I think I am,Catbbookss😂😂😂

reply

Don't hate the gamers, hate the games ;)

I'm with you, croft_alice. Although I have slacked in the last decade, I've been a gamer since the Atari 2600. The last system I really got "into" was the Gamecube, but I did continue on to the PS3, Wii, Wii U, 3DS, and of course plan to get a Switch eventually (as well as a PS4 most likely, I can't believe it's been out 4 years already and I haven't even tried it!).

I really want to see an upgraded 4K Oculus Rift, though. Then I'd be back into my PC gaming big time.

reply

You're not alone, another gamer here! PS3 and PS4 are my thing. Currently playing through Killzone: Shadow Fall.

reply

Yet another here. Still got my GameCube,Dreamcast, Xbox, and two PS3s (one is backwards compatible so I can play PS2 or PS games). Still haven't upgraded to PS4 or Xbox One yet.

reply

I also have a Dreamcast. It's gathering dust under the tv though. I only ocassionally play my original grey PlayStation with my 4yo son. He loves Crash Bash, Bomberman, Sokoban, Tekken and Street Fighter. Buy mostly it's smartphone and tablet these days.

reply

Nice too see i'm not alone here....anyway I have a ps3 and an xbox one s console....but still,I think i'm the only raider here😂😂😂

reply

[deleted]

It's not impossible,Dazed😉i'm sorry if I ruined your...belief,but they did release a new version of Mario on xbox one...it's nothing different from the old games, but in this new version i've seen that Mario and...Luigi...if I recall correctly ...can fly,new worlds...for the nostalgics of this game looks pretty good😉

reply

[deleted]

Supet Mario Bros for xbox one,you can verify,Dazed...it's true.

[deleted]

[deleted]

reply

[deleted]

To be mad...no,it's not a good thing, you know...blood pressure rising, headecks, could lead on something worse,so keep on beeing calm😉

[deleted]

You're right...I don't know what is this...trolling,but I don't know how to post a link, believe it or not,I am using a smartphone not a computer...anyway i'm honestly sorry if I upset you in any way.

reply

[deleted]

What confused you,Dazed?

reply

[deleted]

Ah,well...it's not a party until something gets broken😉

reply

Mario and Luigi rule. As many game systems I have been through starting with the Atari 2600 . I have yet to play a Zelda game.

reply

[deleted]

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm not sure why I never connected with it when I would watch my friends play the first Zelda on Nes. They would end up switching to Mario Bros., Contra,Castlevania or MegaMan.So by the time I got that system those were the first games I had to get. Then I switched to Sega Genesis when it came out for Sonic the hedgehog. Then the 64 came out and I got back into Mario. I played a lot of Turok, GoldenEye, Mario Kart and of course Mario 64, my personal favorite Mario game.

reply

You should check Mario Party. It's a lot of fun. Especially if you can get 4 people playing.
We still Play Mario Party on the Wii a couple times a year.

reply

[deleted]

Nothing like drunk Mario Party.

reply

Drunk Mario Kart is fun as well.

reply

Very true.
I can't stay on that darn haunted house bridge (or whatever it is) sober
much less drunk.

reply

Lol. I tend do better on it when I'm one eyeing it.

reply

Ahhh,the good old days...

reply

[deleted]

Sometimes I could get that power slide going but not very often.

reply

Oh yeah, how could I forget Mario Party.

Back in the day, we had Atari and later, Nintendo and loads of the game cartridges.
Now days I play games on the Publishers Clearing House Games site for relaxation. They have tons of games. Does that make me a gamer?

reply

I don't know,MissMargo...you should ask Barclays for this,he created this thread😉

reply

No big deal. I play games. I guess whether I'm a gamer or not really isn't too important.
Smile.

reply

No,it's not,MissMargo...I think Barclays created this thread only because of me😉

A lot of Atari games were great. Hours upon hours. Back in those days we went from Blip, Simon and the hand held
football or basketball games to Atari. Quite a jump.

reply

So many people laugh at those these days, but they must realize that it all starts somewhere.
So many of those games were fun. Today they seem so simple and a bit primitive by today's standards.
My favorite Atari game was one called Sea Hunt. That one was fun.

reply

I remember that one . Was that the one with a diver ?
I liked one about a guy who jumps out of a parachute
and you had to make land on a target. (a line). Some levels had wind and some the target moved.
Also loved Breakout.

reply

Sea Hunt was the one with a diver.
I don't recall the one with the guy in the parachute.
There were a number of really fun ones...... Good times!

reply

I loved it when we got the Nintendo too. I loved games like Wheel of Fortune and I spent hours on Monopoly! Tetras was another one that I loved playing!

reply

Both of those were great. I loved the animation in Monopoly.
Tetris was addicting. Love those kind of puzzle games.

reply

Tetris (Thank you for the correct spelling) was my favorite!
Monopoly was great because I didn't have to count out the money. The banking was done for you. After a while though, I had my strategy so well thought out that I always won big..... it got to be a bore. I miss it now. I haven't played Monopoly in years.

I can't get into any of those games on Facebook. they just seem silly to me. It seems to be geared toward making more "friends".
Some people may enjoy that sort of thing, and if you do, all fine and good. I'm just not into any of that. I tried keeping a farm and I discovered that tending mine and everyone else's farms was more work and it took far more time than an honest to goodness REAL farm! LOL! No thanks. I'd sooner have produce that I can sell and eat than making a bunch of "friends" that I have never seen in my life.

reply

The board game video games were fun for awhile. It did get boring after awhile.
There's nothing like playing a board game with a group. Aggravation, Tripoley and Pay Day were some of my favorites. We still play board games a few times a year when everybody is over. Still have a lot of fun.

The only Facebook I ever played was Words With Friends. This at least made you think.
I don't have an account but was able to figure out how to play it without one.

LOL. Like you said, way more work than having a real farm. Let your friends that you've never seen
get their own produce.
