No alternative IMDb site is going to have the same user base that IMDb had. To begin with, IMDb was what, 14 years old? Whereas the alternatives are only 5-6 months old.

Add to that, former IMDb posters scattered to the winds, and no doubt some simply gave up posting on any movie or TV site.

Sometimes I miss the activity, but the reality is there were a number of IMDb boards that were dead too. I miss the posters on what became my "home board," Mad Men. I miss the IMDb emoticons.

Other than that, there are many things about this site that I like even better than IMDb.

I took a look at the site you linked to, and it's not for me. I like individual boards for films/shows/people, and that site doesn't have them. If it works better for you, great; it doesn't for me.

Yes, people make individual threads for movies, tv shows, and celebrities. For example, the Mad Men show can be talked about here http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=264867&highlight=mad+men. Almost every single movie and tv show have a discussion for it. Plus, the trolls are non-existent. Over 5,000 members currently active, it really puts this site to shame and has a more mature environment to talk about movies, tv shows & celebrities.

Individual threads /= individual boards. I don't want to have to search through a bunch of threads to possibly locate a thread about a film or show.

Just as it was on IMDb, I want to be able to plug the film or show into the search box, and find a board devoted to said film/show/person. That's my preference. I understand if it's not yours.

I just took a look at that thread, and it's really not about the show, it's about the newest boxed set release. That's fine, but I have no interest in discussing or reading about that.

I read the first 3 pages, and there's very little discussion about the show itself, which is what I'm interested in.

You can talk anything about the show, not just the collection. It's pretty open about things like that and you get tons of replies compared to here, if you post on the Mad Men forum it will be crickets. Just a much better option. And if you want to you can start a new thread under Tv Shows about it and get even more replies without worrying about trolls hijacking your topic.

My point is, that discussion isn't about the show itself, as the MM board here is, and that's what I want.

That site reminds me of IMDb's general topics boards, which I never did like or use. I don't want to have to go to a general TV board and post a thread about MM, or any other show. If it works for you, great.

It's true the MM board is slow here, but I've also gotten several discussions going on it, and joined in on others'. No idea where the other regulars of that board went, save one who's here, but I wish they'd make their way here. Meanwhile, I'm patient. As I said, this site is only 5 months old.

Nicely put. I have discussions on a few individual boards here. The discussions are actually civil! Imagine that!
As far as numbers, I really do believe that this site is growing. I don't mind responding to people who aren't here any longer. Once that movie or show is on the trending bar it is just possible that I may get a response from someone who actually is here. If not today or a week from now, someone will respond and that may get others to respond.....
For now, I prefer the quality on most of the boards. It shows me that people do care about discussing films and TV shows with respect to others.

I only post on this General Discussion board, none of the other general boards. The only reason I started posting on the GD board is because when the site was only a few weeks old, this is where most people gathered, and mostly because we were still bemoaning IMDb for not only pulling the plug, but doing it early. Over time everyone began to spread out to other boards, including me, but continue to gather here.

The other site is solely a copy of IMDb's general boards, with no individual boards at all. Again, it's great if that's what you want, but the majority of those of us here don't.

And that is why it is not an end all. I use IMDb to keep up-to-date on films being currently produced or finished. I even use their trivia section. The only problem that is recurring is the message boards. For this option, I utilize this site. You can miss it all you want; however, it will never bring the message boards back.
